Voodoo As A Viable Religion

As a religion, Voodoo seems more realistic than the major, big religions ... Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc.

The Voodooists see their God as distant and unknowable ... well, YES! ... and they form bonds with the spirits whom God (sorry, "Bondye") sends to do his day to day chores.

That just seems so much more plausible than all this "one God who is everywhere" nonsense.

I'm really coming round to the idea of Voodoo.

I wonder if we have a local Voodoo place? Oh, ha! ... who am I kidding? In this town, you can hardly move for occult places.

I also like all the parties and nudity.

I'm going to have to think of a Voodoo name for myself.

But think of all the Zombies shuffling around. Or are they all likely to shuffle of to Eastbourne?
Question Author
In Eastbourne, they wouldn't really stand out that much.

Except they would be moving faster than everyone else.

I don't think zombies are really part of mainstream Voodoo. Making zombies is just done by a few maverick Voodoo sorcerers, or "bokor".
Bondye - isn't that a beach in Australia?

See how the religion is spreading !!
Voodoo is a scary and powerful craft and is feared by most people in the countries that practice it. If you really believe it then it can give you amazing power but the problem is that most are corrupted by the power and end up using it for evil. It can also be confused with Hoodoo which is far more powerful and rests in the belief that there is a God, they did create everything but now they can't be arsed!
It's got to be a better alternative than any of mainstream religions because it's easily shot down and if that acts as a catalyst to an end to any organised religion amen!

//most are corrupted by the power and end up using it for evil//

Sounds like the stock description of the leaders of any religion.

If I become a Mambo, I will not use my power for evil ends. I will just hold big parties to worship the spirits.
I've seen documentaries of voodoo rituals, some from Haiti and some from Africa; voodoo seems evil to me. And I've had conversations with Hispanics, Haitians, and an African professor - all of them told me that voodoo followers invoke spirits to carry out tasks for them. Then there's a pay-back time for the spirits which could mean death. The claiming of a soul /s.

JJ, hope you are not serious about joining the voodoo cult. I know you won't, you are too brilliant to indulge in this.

Any religion could appear bad if you took a snapshot view.

I bet the wine is better than at a Christian communion.
They drink goat blood, not wine.

I may have to change that.
CallieH -

“... Voodoo is a scary and powerful craft...”
No it isn't.

“... [Voodoo] is feared by most people in the countries that practice it...”
Because science based education is sorely lacking in most countries that practice it. Occultism plus a lack of education equals fear.

“... If you really believe it then it can give you amazing power...”
No it can't.

“... most are corrupted by the power and end up using it for evil...”
Since the power is none existent but belief in it is strong, certain unscrupulous people use the fear of Voodoo to their advantage and use it for nefarious purposes. Voodoo in itself has no intrinsic power whatsoever.

“... It can also be confused with Hoodoo which is far more powerful...”
Hoodoo has as much intrinsic power as Vooodoo, ie. none.

Sorry to pick your post apart piece by piece but you made so many unfounded assertions in your short post that I thought I'd address them individually ;-)

So, essentially, Voodoo has no "magical" powers. It is just a system of belief.

And, as I suggested at the top, the basis of the beliefs seems much more rational than the mainstream faiths.
"Voodoo seems more realistic"

Realistic that what ? Hans Christian Anderson ?

You are stark raving bonkers !
Whose nudity? Yours or mine? Think carefully.Your answer dictates whether it causes a pilgrimage to Brighton.

Everyone together, surely??? x
Everyone? I'm careful who I hang out with.
Go do that voodoo that you do so well.

Putting clothes on was the reason we got thrown out of the Garden Of Eden. God got the right arse because we had become self conscious and got dressed.

So, in that regard, the religions that are closer to God's original intention are the ones that involve a bit of nudity in their worship ... Paganism, Voodoo, etc.
I think Voodoo is alive and well in my town - the bus shelters are full of zombies....many with zimmer frames and wearing plastic rain hoods.

Re the dancing around nekkid - I'm not too sure about doing it in the depths of winter
