Just read in the local paper that a 55-year-old woman from Linlithgow who defrauded £13,000 worth of benefits has been fined the exorbitant sum of £150.

She'll never do that again then?

But she'll have to pay the money back. About a £1 a week is the usual rate, I think.

No mention of paying it back sandy, just a fine.

Where do we sign up for deals like this?
These are the only ones we hear about (those caught out) I wonder how many benefit cheats/criminals there really are?

I thought at one time Mr Cameron was going to clamp down on them?

It must be costing us millions.

Agreed, but so are multi nationals and businesses based in the likes of Monaco.
Och, c'mon Duncer, the taxpayers will foot the bill as usual via her Giro? So her 'punishment' will come down to her probably having to forego the occasional bottle of Buckie!
That'll teach her won't it !!!! (Not).
i am amazed as it's often a custodial sentence. Perhaps there are mitigating circumstances, i.e young children, out of work husband, rent arrears, council tax arrears, well any excuse you could use..

Kero, when I said "She'll never do that again" it was meant to be heavily laden with sarcasm. I appreciate that this doesn't always come across as easily when posted on a site like this, but you have made my point exactly. For £13,000 she might forgo the odd bottle of Buckie or a pack of fags here and there.
