I know what it means, but how did the saying "A fly in the ointment" originate?

In the Bible, Ecclesiastes Chapter 10 Verse 1, it says: "Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to snbd forth a stinking savour, so doth a little folly in him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour." So, now we use it to mean anything that spoils something else.
"Snbd"?? Should read "send".
