The original Metropolitan Police Commisioners office was at No 4 Whitehall, which backed on to Great Scotland Yard. In 1888, a purpose built red and white brick gothic style headquarters was built next to Cannon Row police station on the Victoria Embankment (New Scotland Yard). In 1967 the headquarters moved again to Broadway SW1. Though still called New Scotland Yard, it is really New New Scotland Yard!

Whats great Scotland yard??

The name derives from its original location on a street off Whitehall called Great Scotland Yard . The exact origins of this name are unknown, though a popular explanation is that it was the former site of the residence of the Scottish kings (when staying in England) or their ambassadors, prior to the union of England and Scotland Today, the only surviving element of the original Scotland Yard is a Metropolitan Police stables at 7 Great Scotland Yard.
