What are your views on this "Frankenstein" food, will you purchase it especially if its cheap or are you weary of it and will be looking at every new disease that rears it's head and birth defect with a microscope especially if it was shown that the person in question were heavy users of cloned foodstuffs?

i think they are trying to play at being god now with cloning and genetics, i think it could be mans final fuque up

So you won't be going anywhere near a cloned product steg?
-- answer removed --
i'm not saying that micky, but if milk etc is marked clearly and products that contain them say so then i think for the time being anyway, i'll go for uncloned stuff
It might be a massive assumption that we have 'control'.

I expect cloned products are safe to consume, the human gut is pretty tough.

I just hope our farmers don't wake up one morning to find that all their crops are dying from some mystery virus no one's ever seen before and can't treat because it was man-made in some gm laboratory trying to fuse together genes with the help of viruses (as they do).

This is not like the traditional breeding and cross breeding - this is tinkering with the building blocks of life and by their own admission, the scientists still don't understand how all that works.

In laymans terms how exactly is cloning done? I've googled but then became lost after ""dna strand fragmentation" as you do.
it reminds me of
lets split the atom,
what will happen?
not overly sure, could maybe make a bomb that can kill hundreds of thousands in one go or it could start a chain reaction that could destroy the universe
ok then lets do it
Question Author
Steg remember they done that experiment using the Large Hadron Collider the other day with the possibility that it could open a black hole that could destroy the earth, it still went ahead.
the 2012 phenomenon, is starting to look a good bet

now you know where the expression "mad scientist" comes from micky
so when you finish your pint of milk will another carton appear in its place ?? genius :O)
Question Author
Steg I wonder if these scientists see their work as exciting and groundbreaking or is it just another day at the "office" for them and do they long to just put their feet up, crack open a cold one and put eastenders on the box after a hard week?

Zxxee well they've just invented an invisible cloak so a duplication machine, teleportation devices and a time travel method can't be too far off!
:O)
i like your thinking micky
Question Author
And me yours :)
I do wish you god squad lot wouldn't discuss science. The LHC produces a high energy collision that may well produce a mini black hole. This happens thousands of times an hour in the upper atmosphere where collisions of that sort of energy are routine. They are created and evaporate in a matter of nano seconds due to hawking radiation. The reason for the LHC is because we cannot raise the detection equipment to the edge of space.

Now GM food, cloned etc, harmless, cloned is the same as something else so a rump stake from a clone is the same as the original. GM is what everything already is all be it by nature.

Now please god squaders stop this ridiculous belief in your fairy stories.
i'll put a plea of insanity in for you on judgement day R1loony, it will be ok
Question Author
Sounds like something may be missing from your life r1, have you ever considered religion to maybe fill the void?
well that's all I need another God bothering sweaty in my corner! Tell you what get me smited will you if you have a line to Big G! Perlease!
i forgive you my son for your abusive comment, the meek will inherit the earth- one day you will walk alone
<<GM is what everything already is all be it by nature.>>

Really Geezer?

So when was nature going to get around to adding cold tolerating genetic characteristics of deep sea fish to strawberries?

Now i like the convenience of frozen soft fruit as much as the next man but please tell us all why there is no chance that some laboratory gene/virus manipulation cock up isn't going to create a new disease we can't cope with.
