She is the victim in this case, and all you seemed to be concerned about is whether she's a convert and if that makes her more extreme in her religious expressions.
It doesn't justify what he did to her, even if she issued fatwas over the washing up and whistling on a Tuesday, the court is only interested in the facts as they correspond to the case in so much as they are verifiable.
If he didn't smack her, then who did?
What faces could she pull to distract one from that fact?
And you should be ashamed, a Muslim has stood up to her husband for spousal abuse, in a conservative culture that we are reminded frowns upon divorce, is we are told (by some) misogynous and all you can say is take the bag off your head.

I know nothing about the Koran but I am led to believe there is nothing in it that says a female must cover her face?

Everton, you can go around the houses all you like - and exaggerate my words if it makes you feel better - but the fact remains that in this country no one would be allowed to appear before a court of law in a mask so she was treated no differently to anyone else - and rightly so. Although she lied to the court in telling the magistrate that removing her veil was against her religion, she had no hesitation in bringing her case (and she got the decision she wanted) so she's clearly not so influenced by the conservative Muslim culture you mention as she - and you - would have us believe. And with a name like hers, why would she be? Get real Everton, for goodness sake.
The mention of religion seems to result in your immediate abandonment of all vestige of common sense.
