Third World UK???
It seems if you don't subscribe to a set of religious fairy tales. Preferably Catholicsim, you are third world?

Many in the past, including myself have said that this country is heading towards becoming a third world country.
I think this is an aged thing, the young cannot see this because they have grown up with what England has now become, but the more elderly amongst us can see the vast changes that have taken place over many years.
Cardinal Walter Kaspar's comment was made because that is how he personally sees the present day England and I am sure he has no personal reason to offend.
Perhaps some who would wish him to not make such comments, should remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion, how many times have they made what some would consider a derogative comment that not everyone agrees with?
I know I have, and you make sure I am aware of it, while continuing to make them yourselves.

Before people got a health service before they could afford to travel abroard? before there were refridgerators and washing machines in every home? When owning a car was just a dream for most people? when many peoples jobs were hard repetetive labour!
Why don't we hear all of this eh?
It was just a better world because they were young then and that's the bottom line

Children, do seem to be less respectful at each generation, as their parents are more lenient that the last. Government does add further laws & rules to restrict us, and control more and more with each new parliment. It's not simply an illusion. For each step of improvement in one area we seem to have at least half a step back in a different area.

Admit this is an advantage, but we still managed in the past by taking out a type of medical insurance, no difference to paying one's National Insurance.

Not the end all of end alls, unless one wants a little more sun than we get in the UK. one can see how the rest of the world lives, they are mostly all here.

We ate mostly fresh, and our beer did not come in cans, much more healthy and appealing than something that is months old.

Convenient yes, but not essential though, get out the old Dolly Tub and Ponch, and exercise at the same time.

Once again convenient, but we had cheap public transport, and for shorter journeys we walked, something that is going out of fashion these days it seems.

At least most of the people worked in those days, and although some of it was hard, we were built of stronger stuff, and mostly found it rewarding. Not like today where large groups have never worked, some only work part-time and others sit in front of computer monitors, and if that is not repetetive?????
