(12:28 on Mon 09/Aug/10) The analogue signal in the north-west was turned off in November 2009.

Does that mean you can't get a live broadcast ?

- We may prosecute you
- You could receive a £1000 fine
- We have opened an investigation
Once more, I am sure that you are pleased as punch at the (obscure) point you are making.........

I can receive a digital signal here in Blackpool.

Now, would you care to clarify ..?

I think we've hit the core problem here...it's a matter of interpretation.

You state that you only need a licence if you watch live broadcasts. This is true, but you must ensure that the set is de-tuned - ie:

"the television set must be incapable of receiving all live broadcast programmes.

Jack why would an old analogue set need to be detuned in granada land if it can't pick up a live broadcast

- We may prosecute you
- You could receive a £1000 fine
- We have opened an investigation
I think Chuck has just rubbished you good and proper.

*round of applause for Chuck..
There is a channel called "gay rabbit" on freeview......

and a big dose of Clap for Rebel(R)Soles
:-)

The BBC certainly fulfils its remit.

Many of its programming would never be commissioned by a commercial broadcaster but delivers excellent content that either goes on to win a large audience e.g. the Nature Watch strand or satisfies a wide array of minority interests e.g. Michael Portillo's series on rail journeys.

We all pay (by income tax or vat) for:

parks (municipal and national) - whether we like them all or ever use them
museums and art galleries - whether we like them all or ever use them

because we believe as a society, having them enriches our nation and us as a people

same with the BBC - excellent value for money
RS - I'm flattered but I don't have actually have a great deal of technical knowledge on the matter of broadcast signals.......

If there is a house in which there sits a now defunct analogue TV set, used only for 'playback, etc' I suppose you believe that the Licensing Authorities should know about this by............osmosis.............telepathy, etc. ?

Removal of any external aerial, etc. ought to help matters.

Zeuhl wonderd when you would stickyour nose in if you have a dose of the clap go see your doctor ASAP
...but what has that got to do with BBC waste?

ummmm
(12:46 on Mon 09/Aug/10) I think Chuck has just rubbished you good and proper.

How does chuck get these channels without a digital box added to his analogue set
ummmm i would love to know, please tell
I don't know....I don't much about such things.

Like I said...I get 1 - 5 upstairs through the aerial but I'm not up north so that wouldn't matter to you.
/// wonderd when you would stickyour nose in ///

Yes Rebel (R)

it's called posting an opinion on an open chat forum.

Quite a few people have exercised that freedom here this morning.

Do you ever become disheartened when you find that views like mine (broadly pro-BBC) are in the majority and that most people posting on here think your obsession with knocking the BBC to be suspect and a little sad?
.
"Chuck you would need a digital box"

You didn't say anything about not having a set top box.

If you want answers to questions you really need to start asking the correct questions.
Question Author
Chuck why would i ask what an analogue tv set will pick up if it had a digital box we all know it can pick up all the different live broadcasts.
.
Then why is any of this discussion about analogue TV's relevant to anything if we all know they can pick up digital broadcasts with a box?
Question Author
Chuck you only need a tv licence to pick up live broadcasts
... and what has this got to do with BBC waste?
