I wish you hadn't shown me that, I was having such a good weekend too.
call my cynical but Brent CC is run almost entirely by foreign workers, may have had a bit of inside help here.
The whole system is open to abuse. For example who determines whether £2000 is a fair rent? The landlord and the tenant, who are known to each other or are friends of a friend, could agree to a charge of £2000 even though the market rate may be £1000, knowing that the taxpayer will pay the bill. So the tenant lives in luxury and the landlord & tenant could split the profit.
April's changes should start to help control these costs but unfortunately I think there will still be many ways round the system for some time.
a fews years back a couple of members of brents staff were caught renting out council houses to friends & family for cash !! corruption all the way...
No wonder the 'Leffties' on this site don't like the Daily Mail.

Without this paper we would not get to know about such disgraceful affairs.

If this family were to go back to Somali, I wonder what kind of accommodation they could expect to live in?
A well known immigrant scam is for two immigrants families to each buy a house, then "swap" houses, so each lives in the others house, and then each pays rent to the other person.

Then they claim housing benefit on the house they are renting (which they use to pay off the mortgage on their own house).

So in effect housing benefit is being used to help both of them buy their houses.

I am afraid this country has no idea how much we are being scammed by immigrants. They take advantage of our very lax benefits system and screw us for millions every year.

I have a relative who works for the local council, and within the council this is a well known scam by immigrants. Very hard to prove though.
All I can say is, good luck to them. If the local authority, is foolish enough, to offer these people massive amounts in housing benefit, then you can't blame them for taking it.
£2000 by the way, is the maximum amount in housing benefit for a 5 bedroom house in that area according to LHA rates. I receive £500 per MONTH for my bedsit in South East London, maybe I should tell them it's not a very nice area (which it isn't) and fancy something in Mayfair? But then again, I've only lived in this country for.........all my life.
You couldn't make it up......I read this story and had to check whether it was April the 1st

Unemployed and living in a 8k per month rented house because the area they were living in was in a poorer part of the city......obviously they were used to living in luxury in Somalia........NOT

I notice that it rarely (if ever?) seems to be white English families who get put up for free in these luxurious properties
Funnily enough, there are quite a few white, English families living in similar houses paid for by the state.
They don't want their neighbours to know, so keep quiet about it,
I makes me want to cry, i'ts time we put a stop to all the bleeding hearts in our town halls, and showed these people the back door. We can't support everyone.
I cannot understand why we pay monies to third world countrys, and have been doing so for years. Isn't it about time they sorted themselves out. Most of the money goes to their leaders who build themselves palaces and golf courses. why should we have to pay for it. The money we send could help pay our national debt.

Most of the western world was poor a couple of thousand years ago, in the same position as they are now.

And NO! we owe them NOTHING!
Disgusting.
Lasy, scrounging gits.
Chuck 'em out asap.
From the Daily Mail article above:

“... and their home is just minutes from the fashionable Kensington Place restaurant which was a favourite haunt of the late Princess Diana.”

Haunt!?!

;-)
There`s a downside to this story,.... parking is a nightmare
Aww shucks. That must be a nuisance.
The LHA in the best part of my town is £105 per week, great schools and transport links etc etc
Sorry that was all wrong it's £205 per week for a five bedroomed home
I don't know anything about this housing benefit.

Why do they get it, when I first got married, after serving in the RAF I had to pay own own rent, and then further down the line our own mortgage until it was paid up.

The ironic thing now though, is the fact that my house doesn't really belong to me or my wife, because if we have to go in a home, they will take my house to pay for our keep.

This country certainly looks after you, unless of course you happen to have been born here, served your country, and paid your taxes all your working life.
Isn't it the Landlord who's making a fortune ?
Not necessarily.....
