Can't be bothered to google - so anyone know what the p and q stands for? Obviously it's something to do with manners & all that jazz. I've just used the expression in zzxxee's post below, then thought - what does it mean exactly?

Mind your pints and quarts.

Really? Good advice - when it comes to alcohol chuck - advice I should have taken....
:-)

p.s. Is that a rather large Cuban?
pints and quarts
maybe something to do with pints and quarts in a pub.
maybe something to do with typesetting - p and q looking the same back to front.
maybe please and thank you.
Brewer's online reckons it to do with dances and wigs http://www.infoplease...ry/brewers/ps-qs.html

but in print two alternatives that they give are:

1. getting children to not be confused between the letters p and q
2 printers' apprentices being careful
(and the pints and quarts thing)

I always thought it was please & thank-Q.......

Chuck - and what a fine handmaiden she looks to be. I can imagine those inner thighs of hers are as firm as....errr... can possibly be. ;-)
Mind your P(lease) and thank Qs.

ie. be mindful of using good manners.
Eh?

Why did my second answer get removed?

Dunno chuck - it was innocuous enough. And mine has stayed - so it cannot be the mention of maidens' thighs, surely?
