Kate Bush is not a 'recluse' - she simply proves that anyone who is famous can live a normal life if they so choose. Her child has been to nursery and is in school, and she takes him, and chats with the other mums.
Walk down the street - no problem - Kate Bush. Go jogging in Leeds at six a.m. wtih half-a-dozen mam-mountain black guys wearing shades and yabbering into radios - cause a fuss - Madonna.
The writer Quentin Crisp told me that famous people who 'hide' in this way convince themselves that the world is desparate to see and know them, but the reality is that the world is really not that bothered.
For the record, i think that Kate Bush is one of the few musicians to whom the word 'genius' can be legitimately applied. the fact that she wants to be a musician and not a 'celebrity' simply increases her worth in my eyes.

She's one of those people who, for me, falls into a sort of Bob Dylan category - I respect them and acknowledge their creativity, longevity and influence, but I don't really much like their work myself. I find her vocal style very mannered and not easy to listen to, but at least it's not formulaic identikit R&B warbling
