The problem is, if you let one country have Nuclear weapons in the middle east, you create the present situation where others want them, to counter the perceived threat. It is a bit hypocritical coming from countries that already have used them (and plan to renew their own nuclear arsenals) to say other countries cannot have them.
We did it ourselves. We said we were persuing cheap sustainable energy and that fuel bills in the future would be peanuts, when we were really perfecting our own weapons.
The problem is, if you let one country have Nuclear weapons in the middle east, you create the present situation where others want them, to counter the perceived threat. It is a bit hypocritical coming from countries that already have used them (and plan to renew their own nuclear arsenals) to say other countries cannot have them.

The fact of the matter is that the sort of Uranium bombs that Iran could make are peashooters compared to the hydrogen bombs possessed by the big atomic powers.
They would however be particularly usefull in deterring an invasion by some power who might have a habit of invading middle eastern countries.

The point you miss jake is that Islam care not about retribution, they are willing to die for Allah and consider it a privilidge. if I may take your pea shooter analogy for minute, they rountinely fire rockets at Israel knowing that what the reponse will be.
