Pitbull 'type' Dog.
Dead 4 year old.
Liverpool.
Grandmother.
Midnight.

Its like a dot to dot!

"This is yet another disadvantaged family let down by a system which betrays them time after time, leaving no choice but to engage in criminal activity, in this case breed fighting dogs for the showring".

Can you guess which newspaper the above little pearl was from?

AOG, yes it is a case of someone else's fault. You said ///This time the onus should be firmly planted at the door of the Police. /// No - it shouldn't. Yes, the police were remiss, but ultimately they cannot be expected to shoulder the responsibility for this child's safety. That was the duty of his parents and they are the people who failed.

Or even no grandmother babysitting - no dead child. Would anyone here leave their child in a house where dogs like this are at large?
I'm a grandma with tattoos,I even have one at the base of my spine-it isn't a tribal sl@gtag though.I did used to have my nose and navel pierced but removed them years ago.The only other jewellery I wear is a pair of small sleeper type earrings and my engagement ring.I don't go on holiday abroad for baccy runs...in fact have only ever been abroad once on a day trip to france with my school when I was 13.lol
I don't own a dog as i'm more of a 'cat person',but don't currently have a cat either.
My point.....not all grannies with tattoos are bad people :-)

They were breaking the law in having an illegal dog.

This breach of the law was reported on several occasions.

I was under the impression that the major function of the Police force was to enforce the law..........not ignore it.

Maybe I am mistaken.
I'm not getting at grannies, daffy, simply at people who would even consider leaving children where dogs like this roam free,
How did the dog get to the child at midnight? Wouldn't he have been asleep? The child I mean.

I have to agree with the majority, you cannot lay the blame entirely on the police.
My post was in response to jays_son naomi.

From what I have read B00, the boy was sleeping and the dog just went for him!
Neither would I, Mr.Clean. In fact I wouldn't go there without children - and I'm a dog owner.

This could just as easily have happened before the police had been informed. Who would have been expected to share the blame then? Whatever the circumstances, it's down to the parents because ultimately the safety of that child is their responsibility.
Oh, ok Daffy. Thanks.
I would never take a young child into an area where there was a dog of this type,in fact I would be wary of any dog.It isn't just pitbulls who have the ability and strength to tear a child to pieces. There have been many cases over the years of other breeds doing exactly the same.

there have been more than just those listed in that link.

It isn't just small children at risk either.
All of the adults living in that home including the grandmother should be held accountable for this boys' death, and they should be severely punished.
What is the point of this debate?
It makes no difference whether the family is to blame for keeping a dog that they have bred to be vicious, what sort of life would this child have had with them anyway? The sort of cretin that is able to 'train' a dog as an attack dog, ie kicking it, forcing it to fight, treating it cruelly in order to make it as fearful as possible, and so on has no business having charge of a child in the first place.
IMO Dog or no dog the child would have grown up to be a nasty little bugger at best with these guardians.
