Yes - on hygiene matters alone I don't think it should be allowed. Where will it all end if this is allowed? Men in Armani 3-piece trunk-suits? Women in evening dress? Ridiculous.
If she wants to swim so badly - find someone with a private pool or go and have a dip in the sea.
why does it have to be unhygienic?

I see some scabby looking people at the pool, but we don't check to see how clean their clobber is!
as my husband is forced to wear 'speedo' type trunks rather than swimming shorts in many pools in france, then yes, the burkini should defo be banned. it's neither sexist nor political, it's been a law in france for years and years (bit of a silly law i think, but when in rome....or in this case france... and if you don't like it then don't go there, simple!)
True - but all that material - you just don't know what's lurking in there! I don't know - can't explain it, I just think we are so scared of offending Ethnic minorities these days - why make allowances for some religions but not others? What if a Roman Catholic Nun turned up at the pool in her habit wanting to have a swim? She'd be told where to get off (or to get it off).

It's too early in the morning for my mind to get into a religious/race debate, I just don't think that's right.
Yep, ban all wet suits at the seaside too.
That's just silly twenty !!!
the French are being consistent but daft. Men aren't allowed to wear standard shorts, it has to be speedos. British pools manage to get by without these restrictions, despite the high level of health and safety laws in this country. In fact Alton Towers has just banned speedos.

Personally, I wouldn't be in the least bothered by a burkini in my pool, or a nun in her habit; why shouldn't they exercise and enjoy themselves?

The French rule only applies to pools, not the sea.
Hygiene....I agree with salla.

If they have a bikini on or normal swimsuit and are having their period, then almost certainly they will be wearing a tampon, which is hygienic in the context of this thread.

If they are completely covered or has a burkini on and having a period, then she MIGHT be wearing sanitary towels and in my book, in a swimming pool, that is unhygienic.........particularly if there are sharks in the pool that can smell blood from miles away.

There is nowhere in the Koran which says that the female body should be completely covered.

Muslim men do not swim in their thobe's, they swim in bathing trunks.

It is female exhibitionism again.

They either adhere to the customs in the society in which they live or "stay indoors" as they would be required to do had the still been in their native Muslim country.
"particularly if there are sharks in the pool that can smell blood from miles away."

They have sharks in French swimming pools???
daffy...it was a joke......a joke.
And that ^^^ was sarcasm sqad ;-)
Sqad she is in her native country

Carole, who was born in a traditional French family and converted to Islam at the age of 17, said she bought her attire on holiday in Dubai.

More STUPID rules they will want to ban smoking in public places next
Make them wear good British costumes like this

Aqualung....you are right, I should have said "in her native Culture"

The problem with that reply is that this "Native Culture" is spreading throughout the world faster than Spanish Flu and I have the feeling that the result may well be the same.

daffy.........sorry my Victoria Beckham lookalike-:)
Not as fast and as far as western culture has spread around the world squad!

And much of todays problams are a result of a reaction to increasing "westification".

Dubai is a lot more western than we'll ever be muslim!
I would imagine it is quite difficult to swim in that loose fabric anyway. There could possibly be a safety issue here rather than a hygiene one.
Peg when Dubai gets a little more westernized they may stop hanging gay people and also start letting gays visit their lovely muslim country ?
jake...good point, but i am talking about CULTURE, which is not necessarily the same as religion.

You are correct about being westernised, but remember the case of the English couple, having sex on the beach, or kissing or whatever, then Islam soon came into play.

Dubai is a lot more western than we'll ever be muslim!

I wonder??

I think this is unhygienic. Clothes harbour bacteria - and apart from that there's no way she can shower before getting into the pool.

Jake, your example wouldn't be allowed in Islam. Your model's arms and part of her chest are uncovered.
