builders insurance

my builder claims his insurance will not cover for water damage to my hardwood floor.
Is there any way to discover if he is telling the truth?
If not,what is my best course of action?

He should have public liability insurance.(ask to see it). If he hasn't got insurance then he is probably a "cowboy".  If the damage is solely his fault (negligence) then I would think you could claim from him using a small claims court. You will need to know how much it will cost to put things right.
