Another lie from Gordon Brown. He told us that the government had banned swine flu from Britain just in case it offended Muslims.

Thanks Jake. Yes them too
Somebody is telling porkies!
Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman said the reference to pigs is offensive to both religions and "we should call this Mexican flu and not swine flu," he told a news conference at a hospital in central Israel.

Yakov Litzman is clearly a balloon. Pigs are not offensive to Muslims or Jews. Only the consumption of their flesh is deemed to be offensive (and even that is open to interpretation). As far as Im aware, most Muslims and Jews do not recoil in horror at the sight of a pig; nor do they call for all pigs to be destroyed.

Its amazing that in the event of a potentially deadly flu virus sweeping the globe, some people seem to be far keener on scoring political points by grandstanding to the worlds media, pontificating on this particular viruss name, than they are about protecting peoples health.

Prat.
Actually it is slightly serious.

I hear the pork industry is worried about potential sales and that poor girl going back to school after catching it will be teased unmercifully - I dare say she'll get oinks for years!

Of course the Mexicans would much rather it was called Swine flu.

You can't win

But these names take a life of their own - I doubt anybody can change it now
