"Ideologically, none of us should like the Bond films. They are sexist, heterosexist, xenophobic, everything that is not politically correct," says Prof Chapman

Does Prof Chapman have a point? Is it sense of humour bypass? As a self confessed Bondophile myself, I think he's taking it all too seriously. Although I enjoy the Bond films, I take them all with a pinch of salt!

What's your favourite Bondism? I like the way that usually the Bad guy in a "Ah Mr Bond, I've been expecting you" sort of moment, then plans an elaborate death for Bond at the same time explaining his plans and low and behold Bold escapes, why didn't they just shoot him straight away? but that's just the suspension of belief that the films give!

Greetings, O Lord Geezer.

This professor sounds like a right tit.

And any girl who wouldn't want to be a Bond Girl is just downright weird.

I would be Domino (before anyone else claims her).

And the best lines from movie history ? (even better than "I'll be back!") are ...

"Goldfinger, I suppose you expect me to talk."

"Nooo, Mr Bond ... I expect you to die!"

Fab.

Hi jayne, yes well and what about the immortal.....

Solitaire:
"Is there time before we leave for lesson number 3?"

Bond:
"Absolutely, no point going off half c0cked!"
Classic
'' Do you expect me to talk ? ''

'' No Mr Bond , I expect you to die ''
But not untill I've told you about my plans
Yep. Half c0cked was a fab line too.

I watched half a bond film once, didn't like it, and have never watched another
i love them and i want to be pussy galore before anyone claims her!
I'm with Zacmaster - I think it's perfectly possible to take an essentially cartoon-escapist set-up like a Bond film and analyse all the juice and fun right out of it - but that is possible with absolutely any piece of entertainment in any art form.

The novels were of their time - and their author - a mysoginist writing in austere times when female equality was simply not something people especially considered.

The films have become increasingly far-fetched, but they are are hardly treastises on international relations are they?

I am no expert, but wasn't Carver the media magnate British?

I would never dream of analysing such light-weight fluff as Bond films, they are simply not designed to stand up to any kind of scrutiny at all.

Next week professor Chapman considers -

"How can anyone afford a property in Albert Square when it's on a tube line, and why do so many unpleasant people live in each other's pockets without moving further out to rural Essex?
I don't like them. I have no particular reason other than I find them very, very boring and repetative.
I don't want to be a Bond girl because it's to much like hard work, not because I'm weird and haven't a hope in hells chance of being one any way.

So Melvyn Bragg isn't going to do an indepth analysis of this one then ?
I dislike the latest two for only one reason - too serious. Bring back Roger Moore.

Oh, and for the record, if you can show me a comedian who avoids being sexist, heterosexist, xenophobic etc, I'll mention his name's Ben Elton and frankly he's unfunny. I love a lot of un-pc humour - only need to mention Men Behaving Badly.
Ben Elton is rubbish at stand up but he co wrote one of the funniest camedies on TV.
But I don't have a problem with anything in the Bond films other than that they are boring. To me anyway. I don't like Spy films.
its like I've always said
live and let live

Am I right ?
I'm not wrong !

I rest my case.
