The jury had been sworn in, but his legal team asked the Judge what his sentence would likely be, if he admitted guilt. The Judge said it would be a suspended sentence. Well better plead guilty then, can't be bad.
How is this sort of thing allowed to happen? Exactly the same as the three top brass at Severn Trent Water, although their company was fined millons of pounds for telling lies about the size of it's water leaks, the judge said it would not be in the public's interests to charge these three.
"Not in the publics interests" what does this mean? Once again a law for one and no laws for the others.
