There seems to be no comment from the local council, should they need planning permission? Since it would appear that the property is being used for other purposes than just a private dwelling.

The most interesting bit is this.

'To clear the temple, we had to invite a priest from India to inaugurate the ceremony so the gods become alive and worthy of prayer.

A human came to bring gods to life and worthy of prayer.
Id much prefer them then the smack-head drug dealer that currently resides in the property next to mine.

Id feel a lot safer to be honest
It must be really annoying having to put up with coaches pulling up outside in a residential area. I think I would have to put in a complaint due to noise pollution and suchlike. It does say in the article that they have been doing this for 30 years and yet nobody has stopped them so maybe they are within the law.
Interesting article.

Note the first line: A couple have had more than 50,000 visitors to their home - after turning their spare bedroom into a Hindu temple.

Then further down: He added: 'We don't keep a record of people who visit but it is in the region of 40,000 and 50,000 in the past 30 years.

Do you think this is accurate reporting from the Daily Mail?

Also interesting that none of the neighbours complained though I concede that this could be due to feeling intimidated.

In answer to your question - I wouldn't want to live next door to them - but would prefer living next door to them than a load of drug addicts etc
I believe that any place of worship doesn't have to pay council tax.
As long as my drive wan't obstructed for long periods, and my peace wasnt overly disturbed, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Bet they're a lot quieter than many households.
Some quite selfish answers here.

It boils down to one law for one and one law for another. The point of the story is , be it 50K 40K or even 100, is that no planning has been sought for something that will disturb the neighbourhood.

I'm sure if I setup a shrine to Hitler/Stalin etc the local authorities would be down on me like a ton of bricks.

This is exactly what is wrong with this country asn the sooner the liberal left are given the heav-ho the better. It wont be long , my only worry is that the swing will go too far the other way.

Liberal lefties, of which there are many on this site, if it does it is YOUR fault.
One of my neighbours is a Christian and has weekly prayer meetings at home and has done for 30 years.

Every week there is between 15 and 20 people - it is not a problem for anybody. I reckon there have been over 28000 people visiting over that period.
I wonder why she hasn't made the news?
The pictures certainly show mor than 20 people. HAving said that no matter what the religion or whatever anything organised on a regular basis consitutes change of use. That requires planning permission.

In the case you quote of 20 Christian - do they all walk ? I doubt it and if they dont then parking consistues a problem for people with cars - maybe you dont own one ?
Some quite selfish answers here.

Who is being selfish and for what reason?

It boils down to one law for one and one law for another.

Which law are you referring to exactly?

I'm sure if I setup a shrine to Hitler/Stalin etc the local authorities would be down on me like a ton of bricks.

Which Hindu God killed millions of people?

This is exactly what is wrong with this country

What, the fact that people can practice freedom of Religion?

Why are you incensed about this - the neighbours don't seem to be complaining and the council haven't complained about it?

anything organised on a regular basis consitutes change of use. That requires planning permission. - have you just made this law up?

I have friends who come round on the first Thursday of every month for a meal - better get down the council and get some planning permission.
vic - I'm incensed ?

Mmm - quite a rant there. I think you get the point I am making though.
I have got a car actually but they don't obstruct my drive or anybody elses.

I allow three of them to park on my drive, another neighbour accommodates two and there is ample parking for the rest.

It's only an hour or so after all.
vic - I'm incensed ? - well you are the one talking about This is exactly what is wrong with this country

Mmm - quite a rant there. I think you get the point I am making though. no actually I don't - that is why I have asked you the questions which you haven't bothered to reply to:

Shall I try again?

1) Who (ABers) is being selfish and for what reason?

2) Which law are you referring to exactly? when you say "It boils down to one law for one and one law for another. "

3) Why are you incensed about this? - Or if you prefer - why do you think that is what is wrong with this country?

4) Which law requires planning permission / change of use for regular organised meetings?
1) The selfish is, I dont care if not in my back yard. No one knows what the impact is here just quotes from what ehy see around them which may be quite irelevanr
2) Like I say no boubt if I called a regular meeting of this magnitude the council et al would be round. But of course it rather looks here that if you complain the 'noo labour' chant of racist would be slung. Hence one law for one and another for everyone else. Any please dont say this does nto happen.
3) I'm not actually incensed. I dont actually particularly care - as it is not on my dorrstep. See answer 1) as you are repeating yourself.
4) As I understood if a dwelling is not used for purely domestic use it is liable for 'change of use' planning permission. Please corect me if I am wrong but a temple is not domestic.
Unless of course they do have planning permission

Do they ?

Sandbach99....how do I get my home free of council tax by claiming it as a place of worship. Will saying my night prayers be sufficient ?
Lol!!!! The pic on the stairs looks like our place at party time!!
Building a mosque or Mulsim place of worship in this country is now accepted.

What do you think would happen if we decided to build a Christian Church in a Muslim Country like Iran, Iraq or Afghanistan?

I think you know what would happen.

Though I agree that these people should have freedom of prayer,...

A. Why sdhould it be news, who really cares, I know I dont. It wont make difference to my day, and it wont be a talking point at lunch time.

B. I agree with the one law remark. There is no law oneeye but its seems that there are things that we cannot do, but the minority, soon to be majority, in this country are permitted to do anything they wish, if they scream loud enough.

THis country is becomming one big playground for bullies
