If labours majority is 66 and they lose 33 seats then there majority is 33.

If the tories are 66 behind how can they be equal if they gain 33???

If you have a majority of 66 and you lose 33 of them, then those lost 33 get added to the other party's total.

So you go down by 33 and they go up by 33.

If you have 66 and you give 33 to someone else, you both have 33 (and you have a majority of 0).

What is the alternative to Gordon Brown, Cameron? do me a favour please, he's against the abolishment of the 10p tax band but won't reinstate it, he talks a good game but thats all it is, TALK! just cast your minds back to the late 80's and the 90's, what a disaster the torys were, do we really want to go back to that, i think not. Brown was a great chancellor but lacks that bit of charisma to be pm, Cameron has the charisma but thats all he's got. stick with the devil we know thats my view.

I take back what I said earlier about there being no credible opponent to Brown.
After carefull consideration I think the only Labour MP worth a look in these days is the Rt Hon Jack Straw:

However I heard him being interviewed on Radio 4 recently (last week) and he categorically ruled himself out of any leadership contest

I don't think Brown will get ditched as such a show of lack of confidence would I think send a message to the public which would erode what little confidence there is.

An analysis I heard this morning suggested that if he focusesess on the economy and deals more robustly with the media, in 2 years if the economy has picked up again, he will be credited with that whether that accurately reflects his prowess of not.

The thought of Cameron is just to depressing for words at the moment

Brown has a couple of years before the next election in which to turn things around. Nothing I have seen so far convinces me that he has the ability to do so. He has dithered and been paralysed by having to make tough choices. I'm going to hold an election. No I'm not. I'm going to tax the rich. No I'm not. I'm going to tax the poor. No I'm not. Thank heavens for the Labour rebels in overturning (hopefully) the tax rate abolition; Cameron wouldn't have done it. But no credit to Brown, who caused the mess in the first place and went into denial about it. That's not the stuff of good prime ministers.
