He was pushed.

10 days ago, the Prime Minsters defence of his Minister was that Hain wasn't corrupt, he was just incompetent. Obviously, with such a commendation from your boss, your future progress up the ladder of power are probably over. Labour MPs have also been reluctant to back Hain.

Its not the donations that worry me so much. What was the money spent on? Surely not rounds of drinks for those MPs who supported him!

Another tblot on Gordon's landscape. After angling for the Prime Minister's job for ten years, he's probably now finding it not quite the sinecure he so eagerly coveted. My heart aches for him (!) but not nearly as much as it aches for the millions of members of pension schemes who have had their pension pots decimated by his taxation measures and will now have to work extra years to avoid poverty in old age. . What goes round comes round. Chickens usually come home to roost eventually.
Not sure 4GS, maybe because his pal Sir Ian Blair had given him a 'nod and a wink' that all would be ok when they were scratching each others backs.
You couldn't make this one up! When he says that "when he realised that there had been an administrative error in not reporting the donations he immediately took steps to rectify the situation" he really means that "when he was about to get caught he immediately took steps..................."

You can put your mortgages on the enquiry finding that there is not a case to answer, and he will quietly get back into the cabinet after a decent interval ( like others!) He will also stand for office in the next General Election and will be voted in by the stupid electorate.

They are ALL bent and corrupt - when will people learn?!
Shame the rest don't follow suit.
Now that he has gone and is being investigated by the police, I wonder how long it will be before Brown does a u turn on police pay?
Strange days we live in, when one corrupt organisation can be given the backing to investigate the interests of another, corrupt organisation???
