With all this stuff about Phillip Green trying to buy M&S could somone explain this to me: Is this the same Philip Green who already owns half of the british high street (BHS, TopShop, Dotty Ps etc) and if so, how is he allowed to even be interested in M&S let alone want to buy it under the monopolies commission??

This is why they didnt accept his offer because he would then own all the clothes shop big companies.

Yes M&S didn't accept his offer but why isn't someone official stepping in and saying "well actually mr green you can't make an offer becuase you're not allowed as you already own everything." And he's made statements saying he is determined to get M&S... i don't get it...
I see your point to a degree but there is plenty of competition in the clothing market. The monopolies commision only get invloved with companies where there is significant market share issues, in this case the whole of Phillip Greens group (including M&S) wouldn't amount to a huge market share.
A friend of mine works as a Buyer for BHS, and has met Phillip Green on a number of occasions. Apparantly he's one of the biggest bullies you are ever likely to meet. A very unpleasant man.
Yes this is the same Phillip Green. Phillip green as an indiviual can own as many enterprises as he wishes as long as he does not try to merge them in to his arcadia group. this is when there is the possibility for the monolies commision to investigate.  Also it would be hard for the monopolies commision to investigate as all his other companies are all clothes retailers whereas M&S sells food and other products. So he would not have over 25% of the same market place.
