journalist who took heroin?

a few years ago a journalist took heroin to research the effects of the drug.............. i believe he became an addict from this but i am unsure??
my question is ... does anybody remember this person and if so has he kicked the habit?

I think the guy you mean is Lanre Fehintola.
There was a Channel 4 documentary about him in 2001 called Cold Turkey, made by his mate who was a documentary maker.
I'm not sure he'd taken it for research purposes. I think he was covering herion addicts in his work as a photojournalist and sort of got sucked in. He'd had criminal convictions long before that though, so it wasn't exactly the Hollywood decline that it might seem.
He went to prison just after the documentary for possession. No idea what he's doing now ior if he's clean. Sorry!
