i'm absolutely amazed at the interest the breast flashing has generated around the world, but more at the reactions of the yanks. are they really so backward that the sight of an almost bare breast can send a whole nation into a state of apoplexy?

Maybe it's the apparent downfall of the Jackson family....ones has numerous child molestation accusations and now the youngest daughter is turning into a flasher....but your right....when Judy Finnegan flopped out at the TV award ceremony there wasn't much fuss made, was there?
yeah I agree, and let's face it Judy's incident was very much more offensive than Janet's!
It think that it is more to do with the fact that there is hardly any nudity or swearing on American T.V. (on the main channels). That coupled with the fact that it happened during a big American as apple pie event such as the Super Bowl, an event that is watched by Adults and Children alike.
What rinkytink says is true but imagine if we had a flasher running across the pitch at the FA cup final, I know you don't see much these days but your sure to see as much as Janet Jackson exposed. I'm sure over here would treat such an incident in the lightest posibble manner. I'd forgotten about the Judy incident, not once did anybody call for here to be sacked or that its was a serious case of indecency. Can't see a page three bird in the wall street journal either.
OMG some children may have seen an almost bare breast?!?!?!?!?! That is earth shattering news. What a publicity stunt. I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that not all Janets would stoop so low. As we say on my island "May your breasts never hang lower than your grass skirt"!
It seems to me that the Americans are not opposed to sex on TV but are opposed to nudity, weird.
Why are they so worried about a tit, when one runs there country.
The yanks obviously find breasts very offensive - in the parts of the US that i've been to (maybe even all of it - i'm not sure), topless sunbathing is illegal.
Well what a surprise, she has an album about to be released. Funny isnt it, MTV said there was going to be a surprise during her her show and now Jackson & Timberlake are offering profuse apologies for the 'accidental' revealing of her breast.
rinkytink had the right idea, it was because there is no nudity shown on broadcast / public television in the USA, one would have to subscribe to cable TV in order to see any. Also, even very young children watch the Super Bowl, and parents like to have a say about when their children will first be exposed to such visuals as nudity, so that they can give a lesson about morals at the same time. It upset people mostly because there was no warning that the incident was coming, for those who may have wished not to see it. It wasn't an accident, like accidentally falling out of a dress, it was secretly planned. And, there isn't actual sex on American broadcast / public TV, only the actions leading up to it, and then the rest is edited / cut out. You can only see unedited R-rated movies on cable TV.
It's always amazed me that American TV programs and films depict violence and murder as family entertainment, but go amazingly coy at the first sign of nudity and/or sex
as an American, I too was flabergasted over the brohaha. I dont understand why its okay to allow your children to watch COPS but something with the human body is wrong? Go figure. I am not the only one confused about it. Its okay to have Victoria Secret commericals aire that are Rated XXX but three seconds of breast is a national scandal?? even most americans cant explain it. K~
