I was stood standing on the pavement last night looking up at this phenomenon .

The thought struct me , as to how many people were unaware of what was taking place ; because I couldn't see anybody else outside or peering through their curtains ,looking at it

Were you unaware of what was happening or were you aware , but just not interested ?
Just curious .

I heard it was going to happen on our local radio, although I was unsure what the cause was until RoaldoM above put me right.

I sort of knew about it because my other half said something the other night, but I didn't know when until the peops on my writing forum started to 'talk' about it.

Just as an addendum, why did the moon appear red at the full eclipse?

saxy_jag, the reason I heard that the moon looked red during the eclipse was that the only light reaching it at that time was through the earth's atmosphere which caused the pinkish/red colour.
