Muslim Teacher Sacked

Just heard that the muslim teaching assistant,who refused to remove her veil in class,as now been dismissed by the local authority. In my opinion this is a victory for common sense. Your views please.

You all know where I stand with Muslims and the Muslim community; I'll defend everything except Sharia Law and the (allah?)damn veil.

What the hell were they gonna do? Grope her or eye her up in front of a load of schoolkids? Get a ******* grip, woman.

It's just ludicrous to judge religious items of clothing in a big lump. An adornment in my eyes is simply that - something small that highlights the rest of your clothing, but only highlights your religion. It is little and symbolises whatever you believe in.
Full on dress codes, including facial coverings are not an adornment but a mask. Where do we draw the line with Nun regalia? We�ve never gone on one about these in the past. They were never deemed as harmful to females, or, if so, certainly not in the same way as Muslim women who wear extremely similar gear now are being held to be the font of all evil men can inflict on women.
I am neither a nun, nor any other religious clothing wearing type woman, but come on. Stop yelling at people who are basically wearing what nuns have been wearing for donkeys years.

There's no real evidence I can see to suggest that her veil was preventing her from being able to do her job (and to anyone who wants to counter that, please provide some evidence; I'm not interested in assertions).
I think it would be much more important to teach children that these people are a part of our society (whether we like it or not, I might add) - it would certainly be a lot more constructive than just ignorantly ostricising them.
Frankly, I can understand her being a little unpleasant due to the fact that she's just lost her job...

Well, according to the Telegraph (I'll link below), 92 per cent of the students were Muslim (or other ethnic minority), and a quarter of the staff were also.
I find it very difficult to believe that she was the only one wearing such a garment (of course if I'm proved wrong, I shall gladly retract my statements and shut up).

I'm saying that they'd probably be used to people wearing veils and the like (or the various type of veil). Not that complicated, really...
As for the BBC article, again, I find it hard to believe that children so well surrounded by Moslems (or other ethnic minorities) weren't used to the veil or that she was the only person wearing one at the school.

And non-white Britons, according to a recent census make up roughly 11% of the population (source: The Independant, 6/10/06). Note that that is "non-white", so I would say Moslems are a minority, just much more overblown than the others.

Literacy has really taken a blow in recent years, if a 16 year old still can't grasp a few basic facts from a website!! As for your assertion that there were others at the school with veils on, where is YOUR evidence!! Of course there are not as they would have been sacked to. And don't you think the sacked woman MIGHT have mentioned it to!! ha ha ha ha ha
we live in a society where covering the face with a veil, or balaclava for that matter, is deemed inappropriate in everyday situations. Take it or leave it.
Why should anybody be allowed to promote any religion in a professional environment? Whilst at work you observe professional etiquette and social/religious neutrality. If everyone came to work with thier respective religious props - tensions are bound to arise.
