A Muslim cabbie refused to transport a legal officer from the RNIB and her guide dog because his religion considers the dog an unclean animal. He was fined 200 and ordered to pay 1200 for failing to comply with cabbie regulations and the Disability Discrimination Act. His response was one of defiance and he will continue to refuse to transport passengers accompanied by guide dogs. If he feels so strongly about the matter, why has he entered a profession where he is legally bound to assist the disabled and should he lose his licence if he continues to flout the law on religious grounds?

Yes he should obviously consider employment in a sector where he won't be obliged to do things he doesn't like. That's why my Jewish wife is a film director and not a pig farmer.Really very simple.

Fortunately for your wife nox, actors 'should be treated like cattle'.
I wonder if it was the muslim cabbie. who charge me double fare. and said with a smile its christmas day you no.?

If suffragette's summary above is 100% accurate then I have no sympathy for the cabbie whatsoever.

You deserve each other on here, you really do. what a bunch of bigots.

Actually, juddlinski, the question is not bigotted, but the cabbie most definitely is. If you have nothing of value to add to the debate, why do you bother to comment?
My wife and I went to Sharjah and Ras'Al Kamaih recently and as we were guests in their country we observed their customs. My wife covered herself in public places at all times, I covered my knees and elbows and observed their customs around using swimming pools at restricted times as not to be in the pool at the same time as a Muslim woman. When these people come over here and then expect to be able to apply their own laws and customs to our society it makes my blood boil. If things are so bad here then why not return to where the grass is greener. If you want to live in a country where disabled people are treated as second class citizens (or worse) then stay where you are and treat these people like sh!t. The World has gone mad and the Pope had it right last month.
We should not allow these filthy animals in our land and I'm not talking about the dog
Actually Sufragette, the question is obviously coming from a bigoted viewpoint. If you don't think so then please refer to my last post.

When you say that I 'have nothing of value to add to the debate' I assume that you mean because my views differ from yours they're worthless. You're wrong, of course and unfortunately for you we live in a democracy where free speech is still a right.
juddlinski ~ I don't consider the Q or suffragette bigoted at all.

Yet again, a person chooses a job which would put them into situations they can't handle. This time the person broke the law, therefore will continue to be fined.
juddlinski, manipulating your words a bit - you are also fortunate that free speech is allowed in UK.

The situation is clear-cut. The cabbie is flouting the laws and culture of his chosen country for religious reasons. He should be increasingly heavily fined if he persists, or get a different job. Moreover the BBC should terminate its contract with the firm.

Multi-culturalism is working isn't it ?

Huh? What culture is he flouting exactly?
Sweet Jesus...this is getting mental now.

Sorry, but can anyone see a trend here. What I mean is that...that...newspapers are absolutely gagging for bad Muslim stories.

Shall we make up a few so that the headline writers won't have to bother?

No sp1814 it is not getting mental except to those for whom it is getting mental. Common things are common and rare things are rare.

The influence of the press and media is another matter, but the issues under debate are under debate because they are of huge concern.

I do not share yours and juddlinski's frustration.
Juddlinski, I resent being labelled a bigot but someone with the debating skills and the backbone of an amoeba and the intelligence of Mr Bean. I am 100% behind equal rights for all people be they black, white, Jew, Muslim, male, female,. fat, thin, clever, stupid, able, disabled etc etc etc, however there will be extreme elements of all sections of society and recognising that does NOT make me bigot.
It makes me a realist.
Question Author
I am not in the anti Muslim camp at all, juddlinski and suggest you check out some of my previous answers. I am however, in the pro-disabled rights lobby. If the cabbie hadn't attempted to use his faith as justification for his reprehensible behaviour, then I would not have felt it necessary to mention his faith when condemning him.
suffragette - could you provide a link to this story please.

tyler06 - and just how did you know he was muslim?
