Hi guys my son 22yrs will be touring Europe and can anyone recommend a reliable car to do this with i:e petrol/diesel. he has about 4k t spend on it

make sure it is a common make and model..ie not an obscure make or fancy model this makes it easier to get parts while abroad if misfortune came his way .either stick to japanese or french ,parts are easy to come by in europe..i learned the hard way!!!!!
I have had a Suzuki Alto for over 3 years now and has so far been totally reliable. It only cost 4.5K at the time.

Definitely a Jap car. Top of the list is Honda, they just don't go wrong.
Best bet is a diesel Peugeot 306. Reliable, cheap to insure & run. Loads of Peugeot dealers in France & elsewhere.
Fiesta, never brake down and if they do they are cheap to fix
