So the sickos who who were out away for this have been back in court. Her (French) sentance has remained at five years and his (Webster) has been upped from six years to eight. Do they seriously thing that this is any better than the original sentances?

What do you all think about these updated sentances and what should they have got? Your views please.

I am usually quite liberal in my viewpoints, but I find it very difficult to find any sense of justice in these sentences. Young children and babies should be protected and I believe a twenty year sentence would not have been overly harsh for such cruel and morally reprehensible actions.

I am not going to side with the hang 'em and mutilate 'em brigade, but I do believe sentences for crimes of violence, rape and the abuse of children are areas that should be thoroughly reviewed by our society as a whole.

I believe we are not best served by judges who appear so distant from the life experience of ordinary members of the public.

Life..and I mean life!
Will these Judges ever learn ?

Webster was given a life sentence, with a minimum of 6 years befroe being eligible for parole. This has been upped to 8 years minimum. Given the utter horror of the case I'm not sure that the parole option will actually be utilised that early, especially given his history of abusing children. He's a constant danger. Of course I would be with Pippa in having the option removed at all. Life meaning life.

I'm not fully aware of the degree of involvement of French, and feel less able to comment, although I know she was present and taking photos. With limited knowledge 15-20 years would seem apporopriate.

I'm afraid like Drusilla my usual lenient and liberal views are out of the window on this one. I think that he should have been given a life sentence with a minimum tarriff of at least 20 years and his girlfriend is equally culpable by her very presence and should recieve the same, as someone who actively participated in the horrendous acts inflicted on that little baby, whether directly or indirectly by taking photos of it, deserves the very harshest of punishments and I don't think she has any excuse as to why she didn't call a halt to it and protect the child. They are both monstrous people who will I am reasonably sure, present a significant danger to children upon their release so their release should be delayed for as long as physically possible.
the sickos should have their private parts surgically removed like dogs.

Ooo blue eyes I'm so glad you said that!! It's exactly what I think but didn't wanna say it first!!

its true, why shouldnt they.they would have no desire to rape anybody ever again would they!! i hate the fact that our tax money goes towards taking care of these sick people in prison.they get it far better in there than us outside....nice meals,tv and jobs etc.yeah they get an occasional beating from other in mates but its not enough in my eyes.if someone raped my child i would rather see these sickos suffer for the rest of their miserable lives!!
I am with you there, blue eyes ;) however since public lynching/castration/quartering was deemed an infringement of human rights *rolls eyes* I would rather see them in prison for the rest of their lives than out on the streets in 8 years or less..ba$tards.
sorry, but i am with the hang em and mutilate em brigade!!

A life sentence, meaning life. With a crime such as this they will suffer at the hands of other prisoners and will need to be in solitary confinement. Mutilation of another human, albeit a human who has acted in such a dreadful way, only brings us down to their level.

While we should remember that life with a minimum of 8 years before eligibility for parole is not necessarily the same as 8 years imprisonment, I agree that the sentences are nowhere near long enough. This was a real opportunity for the judge to make amends for the pathetic original sentence, and that opportunity has been badly missed. I'd like to give them total life imprisonment, with no chance of parole and no solitary confinement. Let the other prisoners loose on them while the warders turn a blind eye, and repeat on a daily basis.
i'm with pippa..life... and it should mean life...
what they did was beyond belief.
At least it's another two years for the other inmates to get a hold of him. With any luck, by the time they're done with them they'll both wish they'd been hanged.

Castration sounds like a good idea until you realise it doesn't actually stop rapists - they just use other instruments to rape with.

Life should mean life.

I think they should be released from jail. Just tell us where and when !
Did anyone else think it strange that the baby's mother did not know of the abuse until police showed her photographs? Surely the injuries to a 12 week old baby would be horrendous.
Fingers crossed they will suffer a horrendous death while they are in prison and will never set foot in society again. Failing that I hope the child's mother and father are waiting for them at the prison gates the day they are released - I know I would be....
Me too..with some restraints and mallet.

We definitely need some sort of comprehensive plan here to get society changed. I'm thinking some sort of definitive list of punishments for crimes

Rape - torture then death

murder - torture then death

thieving - hand chopped off

drugs - life imprisonment in squalid cell/death

adultery - stoning (to death naturally)

political subversiveness - mysteriously disappear for ever

Don't know why we didn't think of founding a culture on hate, revenge, horror and brutalising people before. It'll be awesome.
