Have you ever read the Daily Mail?
The Daily Mail could hardly be described as left wing. There are some real 'strait-jacket commandos' working there.

That's the main culprit, bunch of Pinkos!
Ever since the Labour Party went so left wing it is obvious that the press would fall in to line. With the Unions having such power nowadays the newspaper publishers are too scared to speak their minds for fear of upsetting the unions and having widespread strikes.
Thank God we still have newspapers like the Mail and Express around though to give a reasoned and non reactionary voice to minorities and working class people.
I blame Ken Livingstone!
You should make a comeback MrsT. You'd cheer up Gary anyway, I happen to know he's a fan.
Historically (Victorian times, say), London papers tended to be rightwing, and provincial papers - mostly evening ones - had more liberal, even radical, sympathies. That explains the Guardian, which came from Manchester. The Sun used to be leftwing until Murdoch took it over. Papers try to differentiate themselves from others, to carve out their own audience, so the Sun moved right to get away from the Mirror. Only the Mail and the Express operate in exactly the same area, and the Express's declining circulation suggests there really is room for only one newspaper in each sector.
MrsT - could you be more specific? I can't think of any left wing national papers, apart from (perhaps) The Mirror.
I think sp, this is an attempt at irony!

Well theres the Guardian - thats for pinkos and of course the Independant (guadian without the well paid left winfg jobs for life at extortionate salays desined to drain teh NHS and local councils)

As fot the Sun I think you'll find they tend to shift with public opinion. They are clearly ther to sell newspapers and to do that you dont wind your readers up. OF course what the pinkos out there dont want to believe is that the majority of the popluation lean to the middle right ( and by middle I dont mean the current liberals) and of course the Sun is the biggest selling newspaper.

The guardian always seems to be given away free. Dont seem to be able to shift it even then.

I think you should stop reading the Financial Times. Not only is it Left-wing, they actually print it on pink paper.

For some reason, the above was posted before I'd finished...

Regular reading of the FT leaves a permanent tendency to favour the dignity of labour over capital; it regularly exhorts the many to challenge the few; and is a constant critic of the fat-cat tendencies of the owning/managing classes.

To reach a similar level of left-wing propaganda, one can only turn to Das Capital, the seminal work by Marx and/or the Communist Party Manifesto (Marx/Engels).

The soft-left Mail and Express are more suited to New Labour than those Government supporting papers like the Independenet and the Guardian who continue to back the Blairistas as they march onwards towards their fascist utopia in which they will abolish free speech (just call it 'Political Correctness') and make the white, English working class aliens in its own country.

MrsT, try taking more water with it.

The Daily Mail is pretty-much a Socialist paper in my opinion...
.... I did of course mean in a National Socialist sort-of-way.....

they hardly are! only leftie papers are socialist papers now, or maybe local/ weekly papers..newnation or summing

This post is so stupid it has to be a deliberate wind up, the British press is the most right wing in the world. There is no press in Britain that is left wing.
