There is a big debate and vote in Ireland at the moment on the Lisbon Treaty. Basically every main political party except for sinn fein are telling the people to vote Yes next thursday but there are not too many details about the reasons to do so. The No camp seem to think passing the treaty will lead to Ireland becoming a part of the United States of Europe, with the government having less powers to run its own country. However I have seen no mention of the Lisbon Treaty in the british press. Does the Lisbon Treaty affect britain in any way and what are your views on it?

Ireland is the only country planning a referendum on the treaty. If the vote goes against it the pressure would grow for other countries, including Britain, to hold one as well.

I can't see the EU getting much closer together. Americans are proud of their common heritage; but Europeans hate and fear each other.
People have very short memories. Because we sided with the US on Iraq Britain joined an illegal war. Europe was totally against. Makes you think their is an unwritten treaty when dealing with the US. Our foreign policy should be with those of Europe, treaty or otherwise.

It's funny. Irish people hold there freedom dearly, were the brits trying to take it are involved but don't seem too concerned if its only the brussels crowd taking it away. I think if this passes they can then start making their own rules which we have no say in. A little scary I feel.
