This is a new one on me. I wonder if anyone out there can explain it? The mind boggles. Perhaps the policemen involved in this case can't differentiate between the races?

What case?
If that report is fully accurate, I'd say they could fully differentiate between the races...

Thanks Zen, I've just come back online.

On the facts as stated, there seems to be a prima facie case against the officers of neglect of duty at least. If they treated the man differently because he was black then racism is evident. But the concept of 'unwitting racism' seems very worrying.

I picked up that phrase instantly when I heard it on the radio today. It does seem that if you re-invent language sufficiently, you can make people believe that these officers were not guilty of letting this man die in front of them, when they could have prevented it.

Next week, Tony Blair commits the nation to unwitting war, and several thousnad soliders and civilians die, er, unwittingly.,,,

No, sorry, it still seems wrong, I'll have to work on the woring, leave it with me .....

This case is shocking in its entirety. Did anyone see the programme about it on BBC last year? They showed the video of this poor bloke's full yet brief time in custody. There were monkey noises being made in the background on at least 2 occasions as he lay on the floor, his life ebbing away.

As an ex Serviceman I'm slightly biased but it makes my blood boil to think that a young man who served and fought for his country(he was a Falklands veteran) died on the floor of a custody area, his trousers around his ankles and choking on his own blood and vomit whilst policemen stood and watched, some making derogatory sounds.

Unwitting racism? Intentional, beyond a doubt.

That was one of the most painful things I have witnessed. Those four 'policemen' will forever have to watch their back for their barbaric behaviour toward a fellow human being.Jail would actually be too good for them cos they will never be at ease in this big bad world.Yes it was racist - no doubt - big fat typical custody polis who you couldnt put out on patrol -cos theyre too busy organising their next break.j

Thanks for the response, everyone, I think I can also say that we have a consensus here. I think the person who dreamed up the ludicrous expression "unwitting racism" should be made to explain it, publicly. What would happen if three mates and I beat the daylights out of a uniformed policeman, then put forward a defence of "unwitting police assault"? I think we can all guess. Apart from the actions of the police in this case, the result (no action whatsoever against the policemen involved), is totally unacceptable, to me at least.
All are equal.. but most are not qualified for being in the all..Racism is rising and one day it shall rule Europe like the 30's and 40's,, this time it is final.
