What is it with the people in this country, why do we all secretly admire the criminals that do these heists?

They seem to be revered as modern day robin hoods

Ronnie Biggs for example has become a cult figure due to the great train robbery and defying the british justice system, they don't mention that a man died as a result of injuries caused by one of the raiders.

I think I worded my initial question wrong LazyGun

Ahh ok chimney.

Although I do agree with you that The Great Train Robbers were given a sort of celebrity status.... totally undeserved IMO.

I doubt very much that this lot would be afforded the same sort of notoriety though.
The only admirable thing there is about this, is the intelligent and intricate way that it was thought out, the way it was planned to the smallest detail and executed, and the way they will probably dispose of the money. Planning something like this is an artform of a kind, trying to cover your tracks completely is no easy thing, but the carrying out of it is far from admirable, its a crime and criminals should not be applauded or admired for their actions in any way.
Barclays bank just announced a profit of 5.28 BILLION pounds.Perhaps these people are seen as heroes by the public for robbing the robbers!

mighty!!! Where the devil have you been?

Although I can`t condone robbery, I have to admire their skill and cunning. Everything they planned slipped into place and it seems like a typical hollywood script and we all enjoy them so when it happens in real life there is an immediate sense of awe. It is also nice to note that they didn`t injure or kill in their pursuit of fortune, as so many feel the need to do these days. IF they are ever caught, I am sure they will be treated as gods in prison and I dare say a few coppers are secretely impressed aswell.

The place it was stole from didnt look very secure. 50m plus now they say. may aswell stored it in my shed
I think if they had killed someone then it would be a different story. Bet you a film about the planning, the formation of the gang and the actual robbery would be brilliant.

Two people are now being held by Police in connection with the robbery. Could this be "round up the usual suspects", or have our brave investigators been clever for once. There again it could be a carefully engineered smoke screen laid by the robbers to lead the Police astray.

I can't help following this story with a mixture of admiration and amusement. Of course, what the robbers did was wrong (ahem!) but them my approval or disapproval will not affect the outcome one bit, so I feel free to shed crocodile tears for the banks, and not so secretly hope that the thieves have fun trying to spend the money and keeping out of the way of the cops.

Simply because of curious fascination. Wondering and specualting about such a almost mythical sum of cash provides people with conversation fodder and something to talk about in the pub. Nothing wrong with that.

"ALL"? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO ACCUSE ME OF "ADMIRING" A BUNCH OF VICIOUS RUTHLESS VIOLENT CRIMINALS?!?!?

Shut up, go away and kill yourself, you pathetic miserable scum! I do not and will not accept such offensive libellous accusations being made against me!!! Go away and never cast your filthy disgusting shadow over this website again!

Nobody died as a result of injuries sustained in the so-called Great Train Robbery. The train guard who was assaulted during the robbery went back to work the next day, and his death from cancer 7 years latyer was (according to the coroner at his inquest) totally unrelated.
Because they got 40 Million quid and I got squat =D

Amazin or what good luck to them i say just got my fingers crossed its one of my mates

I would have thought that if we could get away with it most of us would do it,or maybe i am on my own but I would be very tempted for that amount of money, I would rather see them get away than some drugged up wassock beating up an old lady for her pension
Speak for yourself. I live in Northern Ireland and in NO WAY do I admire the terrorists suspected of carrying out the 26million robbery over here recently

I wouldn't be quite so outspoken as Bernardo, but completely understand his sentiments!

Innocent victims don't stand a chance when up against mindless criminal/bullies with guns or knives.

Excuse me while I pick myself up off the floor through laughing so much. The news has just been on and apparently a woman has been arrested for trying to deposit a rather large sum of notes, marked with the Tonbridge code, into a building society.... secretly admire the brains? hellooooooo

Like anything complicated it was destined to go wrong the moment the gang involved the fairer sex. Why oh why did they have to poke their dainty noses in?
