Shall we all protest?

As a human being I find this highly offensive:-

"An Iranian paper is holding a contest for cartoons about the Holocaust, to retaliate against the publication of images of the Prophet Muhammad." (BBC)

I find this incredibly ironic considering that Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been widely criticised for claiming that the Holocaust was a "myth". In fact I think there is conference going on in Iran to discuss the "myth" at this very moment.

Now I wonder what would happen if a few thousand offended citizens went down to the Iranian Embassy (16 Prince`sGate, London) and protested?

I hope most people would be above that.

Above what Bill? Protesting or submitting a cartoon? If it is the latter then I admire your faith in humanity - financial rewards are also being offered for these cartoons.
Above protesting. Personally I dont care what Muslims do and I dont think they should care what I do or say.

So why are you bothering to read this thread then?
No. You'd get arrested if you protested.
You asked the question "shall we all protest" I have answered it. Thought thats what you wanted??

I agree with Bill, this is exactly what incitement to racial hatred is. It's getting everyone whipped up in a frenzy. They are printing the holocaust 'cartoons' because they are trying to come up with something that we find highly offensive, so they can turn round and say "there, you don't like it when we do it, do you" The best thing to do is ignore it. lunacy begets lunacy.

And more to the point, to them, the Danish printing a cartoon of the prophet Muhammad, is as offensive as them printing a cartoon of the holocaust.

If we believe in freedom of press, we believe in freedom of press, not just when it suits us, so why would we protest against it?

We should not stoop to there level, i consider that we live in an understanding and tolerant society. by protesting we show we are as idiotic as they are.

I shouldn't worry - Iran won't be there very much longer!

See, if everyone was atheist there would be none of this theatrical poncing around. Still, maybe all the religions will exterminate eachother, then we can get back to calling eachother fatso or big-nose - proper insults which at least have some basis in truth. Hurrah.

Do you think all the Gods are sitting in a row on the benches up above, watching the participating teams below trying to score points against each other ? Well, for ANY Gods sake, I wish someone would blow the final whistle!!

Religion really gets people fired up and this is part of the problem. In this day and age surely we can approach this subject more objectively and dismiss the childish behaviour that is occuring. Religion has a very bloody past, but no one seems to acknowledge that "their" belief is wrong or has any flaws. It seems to be a very weak argument to say that it is in the name of.... or the book says.... . We have the intelligence to resolve all our problems, but we (on the whole) choose not to.

So rather than join in with the mud slinging, why don't we resolve the issues without bringing religion into it, it's time to grow up and take responsibility for our actions and stop hiding behind something that has no evidence of existing.

Let's face it, ancient civalisations have all had their own religions, and they have all died out, taking their religion with them.

Religion is a means of control - It will prevent the development of mankind and drag us back into the dark ages unless we take control of our lives.

Rant over.....

A point to the above post: childish behaviour??? these people are rioting, terrorising and killing all over the world, these people wont stop till the word is Islamic, their words not mine. very childish!!!
I was referring to the reaction as childish. The actions are outrageous !!!
Just so Englishbird - it's a shame logic is in such short supply in these situations.

It' s just a graphical representation of someone making a point, or even trying to evoke a reaction. If it makes you think, or challenges any preconceptions you may have formed without rationally thinking them through, then I welcome such additions.

How on earth could we condescend those who carry out these actions if we indulge in them? On the other hand, you are perfectly within your rights to protest - I look forward to seeing you there.
