How come the USA cannot come up with better, younger Presidential candidates than Trump and Biden?

Until we can do better than Sunak and Stammer we best not throw stones.

Nobody of any real worth wants to be the head of a rigged game I suppose.

I am sure the cost and all the hoopla puts many people off.

Maybe there also should be an upper age limit, though that would not necessarily exclude nutters and incompetents

Donald Trump is not yet the candidate, but he won the Iowa caucus among over forty delegates. Here was is his result and the following three contenders:

Donald Trump
51%
56,260 votes

Ron DeSantis
21.2%
23,420 votes

Nikki Haley
19.1%
21,085 votes

Vivek Ramaswamy
7.7%
8,449 votes

So the choice is there, it's just that people chose Trump. In one way he got 51%, in another way he got 56000 votes in a state of 3.2 million people.

"Maybe there also should be an upper age limit, though that would not necessarily exclude nutters and incompetents"

The nuttiest Republican - and that's saying something - was just about the youngest: Ramaswamy. That's worrying

because the party machines throw their weight behind them... trump ran in 2016 as something of an outsider but the republican party is now a trumpist organisation and he is not doing that this time. biden is a bit like clinton... he sees the presidency as something he is owed for his long years in politics and because he beat trump in 2020 the party thinks he will do it again... lets hope they are right eh

and because he beat trump in 2020 the party thinks he will do it again.

Do they?

the republican party is to all intents and purposes a neofascist organisation...  the people who vote in those primaries are not "normal" people so to speak, so their preference for trump is misleading. the democrats are very much still an old style bastion of special interests and american-style corruption...

it is the parties that have let the USA down in my opinion and which strangle the possibility for political progress. the USA is otherwise a country that is brimming with talent and ideas.

perhaps "hope" is a better word... but yes i think that is what biden's party believes. i do not know if they are right.

I get the impression that Trump has let it be known that those who don't support him, will feel his wrath and be *punished* in some way. Of course, that strikes fear Inn the hearts if his followers.

I saw a documentary the other night...itv?...that looked at his fan base and the why's...why are former Biden supporters, born again and Pentecostal Christians(gun toasting ones at that)...and others, behind him now. In spite of him facing the possibility of jail? They all see him as someone who gets things done...Americans want an authoritarian figure at the helm. No matter the cost it would seem.

Why are they doing their best to stop him running then?

oh i am not familiar with those efforts... perhaps i am wrong. can you show me?

Yeah, that doesn't surprise.

Trump is a shoo-in against Biden.

do you have any information regarding efforts by the democrats encouraging biden not to run?

Could be worse, Sarah Palin (60 next month) could try for a comeback 😀   😀   😀   😀   😀   😀   😀   😀   😀   😀   😀

That Vivak guy is pretty young and De Santis is only in his 40s.

Both have pretty extreme views, however
