The complete annihilation of Hamas is impossible, given the difficulty in killing an idea.

The only real answer is to civilise negotiations on both sides taking their respective populations with them, this though is only slightly less difficult than killing the idea.

Exactly, the nazis were finished after WW2.  Until Hamas suffer a similar defeat, more and more will suffer.  If the Palestinian authorities and other arab countries were serious about the preservation of civilian life in both Palestine and Israel, they would join in the fight against Hamas.  They won't.  So the job is left with Israel.

It is 2023 - surely humans have better ways of solving disputes than by killing vast numbers of innocent people to ensure that the bad guys are eradicated.

I don't know the answer, but insulting people who do not agree with how you view the situation is pathetic.

defeating nazism did not necessitate or justify the purposeful mass killing of civilians... it was wrong then and it is wrong now

de-nazification was something of a myth by the way... the western allies hired numerous nazi engineers and even appointed a nazi the head of west germany's security services... but that is something of an irrelevance

hamas as islamists and as we know, like other religions wont go away either by bombing or otherwise, if anything its ammunition to islamists or a cloak of divine right, prophet said so, peace erm never, wipe out hamas, but you still have islamists who believe in the same idea, so basically israel will never really win, subdue the population, even if they had peace, islamists will still kick off and kill jews...thye live amongst to ones who just want to get on with life, ruining it basically.
