I look up at tower cranes sometimes and wonder if they're safe!

Apparently not always.

Canary. It doesn't happen very often. There's far more people drop dead in the high street than cranes collapse.

there are a lot fewer cranes than people however, so you'd have to do a good deal of research to be sure whether cranes or people are more collapsible.

jno. I wasn't thinking about statistical probabilities, just how many cranes kill people in the average day. Just trying to reassure people. A bit like terrorist murders each year compared with road deaths.

I think the fact that tower cranes are delivered on trailers bedecked with orange beacons and dragged at mind-numbingly slow speeds causing frustration amongst other drivers only muddies that particular pool, Atheist.

I have never actually seen one being erected. One day it suddenly appears as if by magic.

It is magic, Dave. I've seen loads of them go up but I'm not allowed to tell you about it.

The large christmas tree in Washington was blown over yesterday and the news report said it was lifted back by people from Ukraine. Or it might have said the people used a crane. Anyway, it's back up now! 😊

I guess everything needs proper maintenance & checks. Thankfully it fell on something being built and not a nearby occupied building. We await the result of the investigation.
