This thread seems to have lost track, (give 'em hell TTT) .Returning to the OP and paraphrasing that great American cop, Frank Drebbin of Naked Gun fame ;When I find people who have violently forced themselves into my country, killed 1,000 of my neighbours, raped women, killed children, & beheaded babies,  what do I do ? "I shoot the ba-sterd, s ! "

What they should do and what they will do are very different things.

To work towards peace would be to their advantage in the long run.  But they won't do that.  Gaza will suffer bombing and there will be hundreds of Palestinian casualties.  Eventually some form of ceasefire will be brokered.  But it won't be peace.

I think there's no answer to this. The only prospect for both Palestinians and Israelis is perpetual war.

So what should Israel do Sandy?

Gromit ; //Islamic State (ISIS) is not beaten.
Only yesterday they killed 40 people.//

The odd, pathetic nutter blowing himself up in order to get to paradise & claim his 72 virgins doth not an Islamic State make.

They'll continue as they have done for more than 70 years.  Their violence will be met with the same from Palestinians.

As I've said a few times now, there's no answer to this.

Question Author

sandy: "Their violence will be met with the same from Palestinians." - The otherway round me old china, they lob a stone over the wall and their house is demolished, amazing that they never seem to learn.

Question Author

16:39, I asked what you think they SHOULD do not what you think they might do.

Learn to be humbled and cowed by Israeli military might?

Many are courageous men who have taken up a course that will lead to an early grave or many years in an Israeli prison.

They're patriots and that what patriots have done in many countries throughout the ages.

So what are the Israelis?

It's not for me to speak for the Israelis.  Plenty here will do that.

Question Author

Funny only the first post had a go at the actual question.

Question Author

So the Hamas supporters condemn Israel but offer no alternative, right oh!

It's not for you to speak for the Palestinians either sandyRoe but you do.

It's not for me to speak for the Israelis.  Plenty here will do that.

Are you Palestinian?

Question Author

sandy: "Many are courageous men who have taken up a course that will lead to an early grave or many years in an Israeli prison." - yeah takes real courage to behead a baby.

Question Author

sandy: "Learn to be humbled and cowed by Israeli military might?" - no, learn a bit of common. A rat canot defeat a tiger, it must find another way.

"The silence from Sandy/Untitled/countrylover et al is deafening."

Just can't be bothered any more with being told I support Hamas.  I've tried to explain otherwise but you simply don't understand, or don't want to understand.   I have no answer to the present situation .

well stop demonstrating that you do then, it ain't rocket is it?

TORATORATORA, "yeah takes real courage to behead a baby."

Has that claim been verified as being true?

One needs to understand the difference between the terrorists and the civilians, and target the former. We hear reports of many deaths on both sides, and for sure they are not all military or terrorist fatalities. Asking what should be done in response is an indefinite request as, what may prove to be inevitable at present is not going to achieve much longer term. There is naturally much hatred and desire for revenge for the recent atrocity. If some punishment isn't seen to be deal out ( regardless who it hits) then the balance between doves and hawks shifts and division increases further, with even less chance of anyone suggesting or attempting to reconcile anything. Longer term, however needs serious talks and genuine attempts to reach agreements they both can live with. The Palestinian authorities need to ensure they pass legislation to outlaw terrorist groups, and to reduce the chance of each new generation being brainwashed into hating their neighbours. On the Israeli side, they too need to treat their neighbours with respect, stop settling areas that aren't recognised as their territory internationally, and keep their own extremists in check. In any case this requires decades of slow progress. Clearly there are no fast track answers and it is unreasonable to expect anyone to provide one on a public fotum.
