//All flights at Luton Airport have been suspended until the afternoon after a huge fire ripped through a terminal car park.

Flights have been halted until 15:00 BST after the fire at the multi-storey caused the building to suffer a "significant structural collapse".

Up to 1,200 vehicles may have been in the car park and subsequently damaged, the fire service said.

Four firefighters and an airport staff member were taken to hospital.//

No cause has yet been given or ruled out but Luton is an area of high immigration and with the situation in Israel escalating, one cannot help but wonder of it's connected.  I hope it isn't.

Horrifying.  Can't believe that nobody has died in that.

I've seen suggestions that it was a fault with an electric car that caused it but of course nobody knows yet.

If it was a fault with an electric car it will be covered up.

Frightening!  Not pleasant for people who had their cars parked there.

I don't wish to jump to conclusions but it seems my first thought are along the lines of others here. The conclusions of the investigation into it should be interesting to read.

The Daily Mail states that the car that was first on fire is a diesel car.  I'm surprised as diesel does not burn easily

The picture in The Mail is odd also.

First the brakes are on but the fireball seems low and strong. Second if its diesel buring there would be more smoke as it is essentially and oil.

It could of course be a PHEV.

Trial by social media again.  Speculative accusation without any evidence. Typical Answerbank.

That's a helluva conclusional leap, Naomi.

One fire officer is saying that there were several electric vehicles involved early on. This could suggest a fault with a charging station.

They could simply have been parked near the source of the fire ZM.

The problem with EV's is if the battery goes the fire brigade have a bit of a problem.  It's yet another thing related to the headlong rush before setting up infrastructure, procedures and BCP etc.

No leaps - conclusional or otherwise.

Eh? A car is an inanimate object it wont get any trial!

Well, I suppose it's possible, Naomi. Just as a squirrel may have stashed its nuts in the manifold of a Nissan Micra causing it to overheat.

Are a squirrels nuts that big or is the Micra manifold very small?

'They could simply have been parked near the source of the fire ZM'

A bit of Googling finds that there only appear to be EV (Tesla) charging points on level 2 of the terminal 1 parking facility, so my theory appears to be wrong. Ah well.

Red or Grey squirrel, YMB? 😜

A bit more nutty speculation :0)))

Exactly, nicey 🙄

Latest from BBC:

'The blaze is thought to have been started when a diesel car caught fire'

The last time I put a post in news, I was called daft, and accused of making it up??? Someone kindly added a link later on??

Vivid imaginations on AB today. War in Israel/ Palestine big leap to Luton . !!
