The dam has definitely been blown.
They are probably waiting until they can say: “Russia says Ukraine blows dam (this cannot be independently verified)” lol
This is plainly an attempt to slow/stop a putative Ukrainian attempt to cross the Dnipro there. However the dam is also used to supply Crimea with water.
It’s part of a huge complex of hydroelectric power on the mighty Dnipro. Also used to cool the Enerhodar NPP
Zelensky has already reacted with a defiant statement.

Concerns more for the people on the left bank although many of them world already have left before.
This dam turned what was effectively desert into a mini paradise. With the use of the water from the river thus was a lush and fertile ground. South Kherson is known for its water melons especially but people will have had their dachas there and gardens cultivated over decades since Stalin did the same thing in 1941/2.
All that will be gone thanks to the terrorist state which is Russia. What it cannot steal it destroys

There is no risk to the NPP: it has a reservoir and a huge square-shaped “pond” which is full.
As long as the Russians don’t do something to this pool then the cooling system won’t be affected.
This is primarily an ecological catastrophe: mercifully the topography, the nature of the dam, of the river even - perversely due to its sheer size meaning it ought to be able to manage itself longer term - all should mean loss of life is limited. Of course they’re also flooding their own trenches (!)

Unbiased but not perversely doublesided
The BBC etc are good at documentary and on the spot reporting but pretty hopeless for war reporting of this sort and their military and security analysis is way off the mark.
In fact this is largely not their fault, but it’s one reason it’s usually pointless relying on them for news
