The song is devoted to his wife who has Alzheimer’s. He said when they went to Hawaii it was their best holiday ever, before she became poorly.

what rhymes with "Irish butter"?
Good luck to John there.
He would deserve it.

Meanwhile Ukraine is one of the countries that’s already chosen its entry: “Heart of Steel” by Ternopil duo Tvorchi.
Not quite the Eurovision singalong classic that was “Stefania” I think it’s fair to say.
There's something Rotten in the state of Ireland. :-)
Gromit and Ich, we both agree with you. He is an old softee and I was pleased to read this in yesterday's press. Wish him well with his endeavour.
While I was listening to it I was thinking it doesn't seem to have much going for it, but then when it finished, I carried on singing it, which must mean it's a catchy little song.
Is the contest being held in Hawaii?
Good luck to him anyway, I'm sure he'll do better than the UK.
Before the contest became political, it would probably have come in the top three.

// The country's winner will be chosen by a national jury made up of music experts, an international jury and a public vote on Ireland's The Late Late Show on RTE from 21:30 GMT on Friday. //
Isn’t it because he used to visit Hawaii with his mum, to whom the song is a tribute?
Incidentally last year’s winner was also a tribute to a mum, so maybe he’s onto something :-)
Who needs Hawaii when you have Liverpool !
It's quite tuneful, very relaxing and the video is lovely
Anyone else think that Ukraine will win again this year?
as was said it's political, we know what the songs about, many in the eu would not know less they are fans of lydon and know what he is dealing with ie the songs content, heart strings in europe.
it's a lovely song with a message thye may get lost on some.
The song hasn’t actually been chosen to represent Ireland yet ;-)

As for who would win, and would it be Ukraine or not, well as anyone who actually follows it will know there are two lots of votes: juries and phones. Last time Ukraine cleaned up on the phone vote but did less well in the juries - in fact the UK didn’t give any votes to Ukraine at all.
The UK did better with the juries.

Ah yes wife not mum
I have always loved John Lydon's voice, especially with PIL.

I spent a wonderful afternoon with him years ago, interviewing him for a magazine.

He is sharp as a tack, with a wonderfully dry sense of humour, and a complete handle on the music business, and what it did to him, and how he has emerged entirely on his own terms.

I hope he is chosen.
The bloke is a legend. Devoted to his "poorly" wife and I still watch the P.I.L. set from Glastonbury 2013. Guaranteed to rev you up. Have it.

Lu Edmunds is brilliant in that set! Formerly of the Mekons and The Damned.
Love his voice. Such a haunting tune. Whether it will win the contest, I'm not sure.

‘Open Up, by Leftfield is one of my favourite dance tunes, and I dance to it regularly.
Hawaii is not dancey, but is hood, and the sentiment behind is is lovely.
Well done Gromit. Smow did indeed have the handle on this. The lyrics are probably a reflection of what he says to his poor wife to comfort her ... and in some way himself.

""All journeys end
Some begin again
We're here, you and me
Hawaii (hawaii), remember me
I remember you, Hawaii (hawaii)
Hawaii (hawaii), remember me
I remember you, Hawaii""
