probably just an average day for that part of London
haven't been to the Carnival for years and don't plan on going ever again - it must be a pain for many residents, and a crime fest to boot.
one dead and how many have been hurt....
//Police said 209 arrests had been made by early Tuesday, including 46 for assault, 36 for possession of drugs, 33 for possession of an offensive weapon, 27 public order offences and eight sexual assaults.//
How many attend the carnival?
What is the % of crime for the attendance?
Is there another issue here?
As for the residents how many have purchased houses knowing that the carnival is held here every year?
i am sure some will say that out of the millions who attend that's not that bad.... ummm.
as long as they all enjoyed themselves, that's all that matters.
i am sure many do.
I said that last night, emmie.

Carnival brings about a million people into an area of a couple of square miles. That's very roughly the population of Birmingham. So you might want to compare it to the crime rate of Birmingham.

Violence and sexual offences alone came to 78,000 last year - that's about 200 a day.

Carnival figures over three days are given as 46 arrests for assault and eight for sexual assault.

You're far, far safer in Notting Hill, and you get the parades and music.
Why would 33 (discovered) take offensive weapons to a carnival? Damn savages!
R I P the 21 y old - drugs probably. so young to die over a spliff or two

Someone drew a knife in a pub I was at - the floor emptied in under 5 s - including men throwing themselves out of windows ( ground floor) - like wind parting the corn
this would of course be picked up on viddie ( windy fing)
not for me, never again.
davebro - - answer - protection, durr !

if you ask them that is what they say - and of course it is the geeks who feel threatened and not the eviander hoosit look alikes
I enjoyed it - - - late eighties
PP, I used to love the steel bands, but there are hardly any now. The sound systems are just too loud for me, so I've stopped going. Aside from that, I always used to enjoy it.
hmmm, I see someone was killed during the Edinburgh Festival this year.

Hard to say where you should hide out in summer, douglas. You're probably safest in the more remote areas in the Highlands.

'Culture' seems to be the common thread, jno, best avoided lest one is overcome by earnest appreciation.
London's culture has been murderous since at least the Middle Ages. So has Edinburgh's, I suppose - at least in London gangs of nobles didn't charge into the queen's palace and murder her secretary. There's no point in suggesting violence is a newfangled idea introduced by immigrants: they're just assimilating.

Ah, I thought your imagination was running away with you but just wanted to be sure.
all of the great London fairs, including Mayfair itself, have at some stage been abolished because of violence and debauchery. It never seems to make much difference.
A poor police horse collapsed and died as well.
