Do you agree that CEOs should get these huge pay rises and bonuses making the pay gap between them and the staff even wider? I know this happened in the previous years but given the current financial and energy crisis there would be an outcry if figures like this are published.

I've heard this saying so many times lately 'the rich get richer and the poor get poorer'.

//There is legislation for a minimum wage, why not for a maximum wage?//

/Because it negates incentive. Very few would make extra effort for no reward./

Extra effort for what? How many millions do you need to be ‘comfortable’?
Why the greed to make millions you could never possibly spend when life is finite?

As for reward, plenty are getting exorbitant sums for failure and mismanagement, as shown in the links provided.
Unless of course you have links of your own that show otherwise?
Agreed Naomi.

I see a lot of envy and bitterness in this thread. Not a good way to spend your life.
Indeed, Lottie.

Fatticusinch. //Extra effort for what?//

For whatever is required.
Lol, so no, you haven’t got any links? As expected.

What is required is sensible wages and a sharing of wealth with the workers who will then feel valued, instead of undervalued and expected to increase profits for poorer working standards and below-inflation wages.
It’s not difficult, though you obviously struggle with the concept.
I've no idea what sort of links you expect, fatticusinch. The simple fact is few will work harder or longer for no reward.... but I'm sure you know that.... really. ;o)

The ones that back up your claims and assertions but you never do that on any thread, so I didn’t really expect you to on this one either.
Same old.
What 'claims and assertions'? That most people won't work for nothing? I doubt anyone - except you - needs evidence of that.
You’ve already confirmed the suspicions.
Thanks all the same.

You'll never make a Poirot, Fatticusinch. ;o)

I just think that more can be done for those in the lower pay bracket and that these execs could at least think of others before accepting huge bonuses and rises. Moreso now than ever before.
I despair that a discussion on fairness in society leads to completely unfounded accusations of envy and bitterness.

Isn't that what was supposed to have motivated the MPs critical of
the lying Boris Johnson?

What else would you expect from the Borstriches and fanatical wing of the Tory party?
Question Author
I don't think it's about envy. I live comfortably on my income at present even though its just under the national average salary but many low income families are struggling. There just needs to be fairness.

OK, so if you took a million of 100 CEO's (others probably wouldnt have that much) and divided it amongst 27.76 million workers do you really think it would do much?

Clue - it wont buy them a pint.
Question Author
Not much but then it still isn't fair when one person is getting it all.
That's the point tho, it's not one person getting it all. They will have had the responsibility of directing a multi million pound company and making money for the shareholders.
The pay of some folks - company execs / TV personalities / etc. looks excessive but I comfort myself in the hope that about half of it comes back in taxes (am I wrong? I hope not).
sure, davebro, Amazon's taxes alone keep the Royal Navy afloat ... don't they?
