All those who keep quoting Defra are just unbelievably naive IMO. Do you really think they would come out now and say oops, he was clear after all? The whole case was unbearable. Even if he was positive in life he didn't live within a herd of other animals. I do remember there was a raft of ABers who were clamouring for his demise.

Yes
I read something a while back indicating he was clear, but it wasn't "official" yet.
I rather hope she sues.
That's very sad.
surely they tested first??
From the link, "Early tests carried out in September were inconclusive on whether the animal had bovine tuberculosis."
COMPENSATION !!!!!!!!!!!
When I saw the title of the OP I thought it was going to be about Osama Bin Laden

She begged them to test him again as she knew he was clear. I can't think of a reason she shouldn't get compensation for him.

Couldn't care less about him SB.
You can only get compensation if there is malpractice and in this case accepted procedures were followed.

Misdiagnosis does not necessarily indicate malpractice.

She hasn't a hope of obtaining compensation.
She will be after compensation for emotional distress - count on it.
The post mortem was inconclusive.

If you had tests for bowel cancer and they came back as inconclusive, would you tell your mates that you're free of cancer or would you want further tests?
On Friday the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said it had not been possible to conclusively prove from the postmortem tests that Geronimo did have TB.

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) has been trying to culture bacteria from these lesions but, it has now emerged, has been unable to do this.

Defra argued this did not mean Geronimo was free of disease because he had twice tested positive while alive.

The chief veterinary officer, Christine Middlemiss, said: “This animal tested positive for bovine tuberculosis on two separate occasions using highly specific tests. Due to the complexity of the disease, further testing has not enabled us to use whole genome sequencing to try to understand how the animal became infected in the first place.”

Lessons will be learned.
TB or not TB, that is the question...
TCL, now that made me laugh.
//Misdiagnosis does not necessarily indicate malpractice.//

No, and neither can it be allowed to be. It would desecrate the medical/veterinary profession.
// it would desecrate the medical/veterinary profession.//
excuse me dont you mean disseminate?

foo - talk about allegories on the banks of the Nile !

We have previously rehearsed a Mantoux test in an alpaca.
Give them the relevant antigen and then measure the rectal temp 48 h later. Raised temp is a positive test

and it stays positive to show past infection but not active infection

we always really knew that, didnt we?

so I am still Mantoux + from the tramp I caught TB from 1973. Pliz note I am not an Alpaca !
a disseminated medical profession mightn't be a bad thing innit?
