……of a new post on a thread I subscribed to four years ago. The thread is utterly innocuous, as is the new post, and the poster, one I've never heard of, has according to their profile, been here for 14 years but contributed little in that time. Hmmmm…. something to ponder. Batter than counting sheep I suppose.

Night all. Sleep tight.

Better not batter. Better stick to counting sheep.
It happens, Night Naomi x
I've accidentally posted on threads that are several years old occasionally. It's usually because I've seen a 'Related Question' underneath a post that I've been looking at, decided to take a look at it and have then posted a reply on the thread, completely forgetting that it's not a current one.
Must be similar to posting an item saying RIP when the person died five years ago.

Yes, this is not the first time so it certainly does happen, Mamyalynne.

That'll be it, Chris.
I think old usernames are being recycled to try and bring traffic to the site. There are quite a few new faces. but when you look at their profile, they've been subscribed for years, but hardly ever posted.
when i come onto the website i look at the home page the latest posts and then i flick through chatterbank never do i find posts that are so old
Roadman, Naomi did not 'find' the post - she had been subscribed years ago so got an email as the thread had a new post.

Next time you see an unfamiliar name go look at that profile -you may be surprised that the last time they posted was 2014 or even earlier.
how does the post go to her email
12.29 :0) ?
Because if you subscribe to a post any answers will go to the email thst you used to join AB
Roadman, when you subscribe to a thread you get emailed when there's a new reply - unless you disable that function.
oh i see i never noticed that bit before
i accidentally came across an old post that's currently being used as a natter post for regular members :)
There are a few of those, I always feel like I'm eavesdropping :-)
I've stumbled on that one a few times bednobs.
Yesterday I found myself on a post from 2004 I think. A current newbie had posted there...it was a very strange post. I suspect the newbie didn't last.
Yes, it's a shame the 'regular members' aren't savvy enough to use a post in one of the categories that DON'T show up in 'Recently Answered', rather than use one in Technology/Internet which DOES appear there, every time one of them posts to it.
The old natter's post is not a new thing, they move the chat to a different post after a while, I think it's lovely, esp if they don't use the regular social media, chat in there to their hearts content
Isn't that what chatterbank is for? More likely used to talk about people behind their backs -lol!
Ah they don't APG it's just their own little chatter about their own little daily life without any debate or whatever - no one minds them
