The UK has reported its highest number of Covid deaths for seven months, with 223 deaths recorded.

A further 43,738 coronavirus cases were reported, daily hospitalisations continued to rise, reaching 921, up 10% on the week.

There was an obituary in the Telegraph recently where someone had died of dementia, but he also had suffered from covid - so Covid went on the death certificate. I don't believe a word of the stats the govt. agencies are feeding us - and haven't done for a long, long time.

Lots of kids are getting Covid. This is a good thing; like we used to have chickenpox parties. Get it over with, get the antibodies and not be too ill. Herd immunity follows.

I heard today that Oxford has developed an effective vaccine against the Delta variant. Good news.

But thats how variants develop. And they pass it on in shops, at home, to teachers, bus drivers. And so it goes on. And it dont give you immunity, just means your less ill. Its far betterer to vaccinate more young people. Other countrys are not hanging around

'Less ill' is fine. As long as it isn't killing people, bobinwales, it's OK. That's how it always has worked. Asian 'flu, from being a killer, has gradually moderated by this process. Nasty, but doesn't kill too many. We have to accept some deaths. Life isn't totally safe. I'm vulnerable , so I keep my fingers crossed, but I will take the risk to get on with my life normally.

In 2019, Flu deaths in England and Wales were 1,213.
Covid deaths since are just short of 138,000.
I wish people would stop comparing the two.

I suppose I was just trying to understand the point of the post Gromit. We know there's a Covid pandemic going on, we know infection rates are rising and that death/hospitalisation rates are now low thanks largely to vaccination.

Normal protocol would have been to kick off the discussion with a token question like 'should we be worried' or 'are further lockdowns required', but thanks for the stats update anyhow.
