With gas prices going through roof and being held to ransom by foreign governments its absolutely ludicrous that we are not making the most of the shale gas under our feet. Ignore the idiotic eco loonies and scaremongering and just get on with it.

I live within sight of one of the biggest wind farms in the UK. For nigh on a month not one of them has turned a revolution unless it has power put into it to prevent seizing. Not an amp of electrickery has been produced from billions of pounds worth of kit. Kit that still needs thousands of pounds a day to maintain it despite it being useless because the wind is not...

Better to spend the money exploiting tidal power. Unlike wind, it is totally predictable.
We could do both but there will be objectors to both. Fracking is likely to produce earlier results.
We should be spending money on energy sources that don't burn fossil fuels and contribute to our own destruction.
// idiotic eco loonies //

Brilliant. The planet isn't burning fast enough for you ?

Googling will produce a page of US sites that are pro the practice. Guess who paid for those.
This seems to be quite unbiased:

Well said, Hopkirk.
Frack off.
Any idea as to how much damage fracking does?
We should be moving away from pillaging the Earth not doing more of it.

It's alright saying move away from fossil fuels but there is a crisis now, we need energy that is constantly on tap, not just when the wind blows. Gas prices are only going to go up, so fuel poverty and people freezing to death in the winter because they can't afford to heat their homes is a price worth paying is it?
Well something needs to be done. The lunacy of successive governments pursuing the ridiculous "Net Zero" strategy is now being laid bare. There is not a cat in Hell's chance of that aim being achieved in the time envisaged without massive hardship and financial difficulties for both individuals and governments. This country's energy strategy is a shambles and only a couple of weeks ago two coal fired power stations had to be brought onstream to keep the lights on. The eco-loonies need to stop their continual warnings of an apocalypse, none of which are likely to materialise, and the government needs to get the fracking industry going and some coal mines reopened. When that has been secured, and China, India and the USA reduce their coal consumption, then we can mess about with barrages and windmills. Meantime our massive 1% contribution to global emissions will have to continue.

The planet isn't burning at all. There have been some forest fires, but there always has been, especially in the summer.
Bang on as usual NJ.

//Better to spend the money exploiting tidal power.//

Unfortunately doesnt work, plus the potential environmental impacts make it a non starter.

Any idea how many will die as a result of fuel poverty. It's cold here in the UK.
I agree Danny.

Its a disgrace we give billions away to other countries but let our own die.

Unfortunately Johnsons (well Carrie Antoinette's) Green policies will make that figure a walk in the park.

What's fuel poverty?
If a country can't supply what their residents need to stay alive, well, that says a lot
If I thought anyone sensible listened to NJ, I’d brand him as ‘dangerous’ but I’m of the opinion that no one with normal cognitive function does, so I won’t.

Incrementally, NJ, I’ve seen your opinions go from mildly ‘off-the-wall’ to completely ga-ga on here over the last couple of years.
You are correct, yes it does.

We pay too much attention to minority views like yours that prevent us from developing cheap solutions. While all the time India and China pump it out.
Odd that ZM, thats exactly what I think of you.

It can. But it won't whilst it continues to be in thrall to a movement that bucks no opposition or criticism.

Oh dear & I thought NJ was just coming round to my way of thinking! LOL
What does that say about you Dave?
