A bad day for the PM, and most of the lethal blows coming from his own party. Can he recover and fight the next General Election.

Boris Johnson faced a wall of fury from all wings of the Conservative party over the UK’s conduct in Afghanistan, with 11 former cabinet ministers among the dozens of MPs and peers expressing their anger and frustration at Britain’s failures in intelligence and preparation.

// During a torrid session in the House of Commons, the overwhelming majority of Tories who spoke condemned Britain’s failure to anticipate the Taliban takeover of Kabul and its perceived humiliation on the world stage. More than 30 Tory MPs spoke against the government, while only a handful voiced support for its actions. //

Thatcher went in 1990 and the conservatives still won the next election but the point is it was a different leader. Thatcher was defeated by the Tories and it’s more likely that it will happen to BJ.

Dominic Raab, our Foreign Secretary, was sunbathing on a lounger on a Cyprus beach when news of the capture of Kabul was announced.

ich: "The popularity of Keir Starmer isn’t really relevant.
He’s never going to be “popular” it probably float around at more or less the same approval rating.
It’s Johnson’s standing that counts.
If he’s seem as incompetent or a liability he’ll be out. " - of course it is if he hopes the unseat the government. In 1992 Kinnochio was miles ahead of the grey man and even then he lost so if Rodders expects to have any sort of hope in the next GE he should be riding high when the PM is mid term mid crises getting a kicking.
gromit: "Dominic Raab, our Foreign Secretary, was sunbathing on a lounger on a Cyprus beach when news of the capture of Kabul was announced." - so ministers are not allowed a holiday in case something happens when they are in the middle of it? No one told St Tony.
Now I'm not exactly a Boris fan as regular readers of my posts will know but this crisis was not of Johnsons making. He didn't start the war (Labour -Blair did) and he didn't issue the directive to suddenly up sticks and go.

Just what exactly do SKS, Treason and the rest of the grandstanders expect him to do? This is Bidens making Johnson, it appears, was not consulted although had tried to put together a coalition of UN forces- but they weren't up for it.

// The PM is mid term //

Wrong. The Conservative Government is mid term. The Conservative leader can be got rid of any time, as Margaret Thatcher found when she was dumped - mid term.

Gromit at 09.00. So what?
Anyone who thinks the current shambles of a labour party will overthrow the Tories needs their head examined. Yes, IMHO, Johnson is a disaster (although not on this issue) but SKS and the labour shower are 10x worse.
Think it's time for Boris to go on holiday...... Permanently.
Gromit clearly expects all Ministers to be at their desk 24x7x365.
I agree Gully, then we can get a real right wing leader in the Tory Party to take over as PM.

That should get you and Gromit spluttering your Muesli up the wall.
There’s a lot of wishful thinking going on here - but that’s all it is.
gromit 09:07, semantic BS. TGL was ousted by the gutless wimps in her third term. Boris will be fighting the GE in 2024, end of.
Gromit @ 09.00 . Dominic Raab is the most useless tool that ever came into politics , He is even worse than his useless Boss.
YMB: "Gromit clearly expects all Ministers to be at their desk 24x7x365. " - right! So no Labour minister ever took a Holiday......Hang on I remember Pappi's gaff in Tuscany being the Noo Laybore playground! PMSL!
YMB I should have said "Correct" above! that reads wrong

It was clear last week when the Taliban were sweeping across the country, that a crisis was brewing.
Raab’s job was to tell Boris the intel that the FO had from our diplomats and spies on the ground in Afghanistan.
He should have cut short his holiday (or not gone at all) and supported his Prime Minister.
Biden’s plans were not exactly secret. A Foreign Secretary on top of his brief should have been ready, not topping up his suntan.
The problem for Johnson is his standing in his party and with voters.
Forget what the opposition say, never mind that this is primarily a crisis of America’s making and indeed not Johnson’s fault entirely:
Look at those MPs. I’d be worried if I was him
gromit, shameful you are politicking, no one expected this to come to a head this quickly. Most of the world assumed that the Afghans would fight for their own country. If ministers postponed their holidays in case something happens they'd never get any sort of break.
Gromit 09.07 . "Thatcher dumped mid-term".
She should have been dumped Mid-Stream. end of .
The left have never ceased telling us that Boris is on his way out. Well they would, wouldn’t they.
