well however it came about gromit we had a lucky escape. Would you have joined at the time?

Blair said we would join if 5 economic tests were met. And they never were.
He also pledged that if the tests had been passed, he would not join us up until the British people had voted to join in a referendum.

Not a fan of Blair, but that was rather skilfully played.

At the time, most of our business and trade leaders wanted us to join. So if the 5 tests had been passed, and we had a referendum the, I probably would have voted to join.
But I am glad we didn’t.
