...of the Scottish football fans?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9754099/Scottish-fans-shunned-pubs-stayed-home-cheer-Ukraine.html

'It's sheer hope that Ukraine will win. I think England will beat them and I don't dislike the English but we just want to see them lose.'

Really?

It would seem from this thread there are many English people who hate the Scots. It makes me sad that Humans, a supposedly intelligent species, can hate other Humans for no rational reason.

Yes I think it is sadly, I’ve seen it happen here in a local bar , I’m not sure why they don’t want us to win, pride maybe?

Bobbi, that being so then I find it all rather sad.
Me too, I saw it full on in Portugal as well , England were playing Poland and the Scots there were in full voice wanting Poland to win, there were two at least 70 yr old women screaming behind us,I think it’s bred into them :0)
Sad, indeed.

A nation led by a Celtic poison dwarf whose venom has leaked into the veins of her people. Unlike Covid, I do not see a vaccine forthcoming soon.
pretty standard stuff from the Blue Woad Brigade. They are very balanced up there, chip on both shoulders.
Jack, these attitudes predate Nicola - I know many like to blame her for everything but you can't on this one.
No. The friends that I have who are football fans are upset, but not surprised, that Scotland is out.

They will continue to watch the football, but they are not all going to start cheering for the team that isn't Scotland.

There is anti-Scottish comments on this (and other) sites - I don't know why.

To be fair, they haven't won a victory over England since 1314 so they are desperate for the next one.
bobbi: ",I think it’s bred into them :0)" - as much as some on here try and deny it, I think you are correct. Anglophobia is rife.

I have Scottish friends too and believe me they will cheer anyone playing England, I think it’s tribal tbh, not dissimilar to Newcastle and Sunderland and as long as it’s just vocal then no harm done
I think it's probably pretty standard behaviour among football fans but I wouldn't diss the Scots for doing it as I expect there would be the same feeling by some of the English if Scotland and Wales had progressed and they hadn't. Trying to deny there is strong rivalry between home nations is naive imo. We do not all love each other.

I saw a lovely report on the BBC when Denmark were playing Wales and the interviewer asked the young Danish fans what they thought of the lack of Welsh supporters for the match. Their reply was that it was a shame as the game wouldn't be complete without the opposing team's supporters in numbers. Now that tells me a lot about the sporting nature of the Danes.
Standard joke is that the Scots support Scotland and any team that is playing against England. Not sure how true this actually is though. Having said that, if England wasn't playing, who would you support?
That’s a valid point Maggie , I’d lose interest for definite and grumble there’s too much sport on the tele ;0))
are the scottish TV stations showing "Braveheart" on wednesday, by any chance?
Andy Murray when he uttered those words. Unfortunately, his PR team had him issuing an apology, saying he was just joking. Many a true Scot wants England to lose, no matter who they are playing. Football is tribal, and there is no bigger tribal rivalry than England v Scotland. Next door but one to me is a Scot and he had the Ukraine colours hanging from his window last night. No doubt i'll be seeing the Danish colours on Wednesday. All good fun :-)
I see i must have inadvertently deleted the beginning of my sentence. Should have begun, "I had the utmost respect for Andy Murray....."
No Choux I don’t think it’s typical.
We can’t all like everyone, just look at some of the comments made by the great and the good on here about transgender, homosexuality and people of colour!
How churlish of certain Scottish folk to spitefully prefer any football team to win over England. We are all of the same geographically, and united we are stronger. I imagine the London bubble has made many feel disenfranchised from effective decisions that effect their lives. Well, the rest of the UK also feel that way too.
